We lost our home when my husband lost his job, he is now working but isn't making much. We can't seem to get money saved, and finding a place to rent in our area is not easy. I've looked into HUD but there is a 5 month waiting list and we only have a few days.

Contact your local social service office, they should be able to help you.

Catholic Charities
Sisters of Charity
Also, call your local SRS office. You may be able to qualify for emergency food stamps so you don't spend that money on food.

Catholic Charities and Sisters of Charity (both Catholic NFPs) are really great about giving housing assistance.

Best of luck to you guys. If all else fails, try to find a shelter to stay in. They aren't as bad as you think. They will help you start anew. Give you a warm bed, good food, and you can usually stay at a shelter for up to 90 days. I've stayed in a few shelters as a minor with my mom and worked at one as an adult. They were life savers!

Good luck. I hope you get the help you need! :-)

I would suggest calling social service agencies and asking about rental assistance because a lot of places help with that even your utility bills and I would also check with local churches because some do offer help with housing and maybe an agency called catholic charity and the salvation army if they can't help you maybe they can at least give you a referral to someone who can.

Go to the nearest social services office and request assistance. Especially if you have children there are alot of programs available. They can help you w/ housing too. Bring all of your paperwork w/ you i.e. bank statements, paystubs, etc. you need to go to social services and seek housing assistance. They are obligated to help you. Good luck and have hope.

Well go to the state department for like a foodstamps or something. Unemployment....if you have babies you will get more help from government. Call your credit card companies and ask them if there is anything they can do to help. Another option find a job yourself.....
