do what I do.. tell them you were in africa and couldn't get a hold of a dentist. Just kidding.. SEriously though.. you should get a hold of your friends and find out who they go to and if they're friendly, etc. Then go to the one who sounds the best and tell him you're nervous. There's so much they could give you to calm you down like the laughing gas. I'm sure you'll even leave there with a free lolly from him.
I think you should also try to get over the in your face attitude some dentsist have. After he's fixed your teeth, you never have to see him again. YOu could always change dentists and since he's solved the original problem you'll have nothing to fear. Go get your teeth fixed.

I am in the same boat right now. I used to go to the dentist regularly and I haven't been in years. I had a filling fall out two days ago and I've gotta go now and It is scary. I've probably gonna have to get a few more fillings when I go. I'm afraid of what the dentist is going to tell me...like a person your age shouldn't have teeth in this condition and that will be so embarrassing to me. my mom spent so much money on my mouth and I haven't even kept up with it and now my wisdom teeth are long over due for pulling and that is just great! And to top that when my wisdom teeth came in on the bottom they just messed up what my mom paid so much on braces to fix. But yo gotta do it if you don't want to end up with no teeth sooner than normal. I'm sure they can put you out while they do that they will probably recommend it! i went to a facial surgeon about a month ago and they recommended that I be put to sleep while they removed my wisdom teeth.

Going to the dentist has changed a lot over the years. Most procedures now done cause you very little pain. BUT what I always do to keep me relaxed is 1) wear headphones so if the dentist does drill I don't hear it and 2) put a drop of my favorite scent right under my nose so if he does have to use a regular drill I don't smell that awful smell. On a good note many procedures can now be done w/ a laser and are pain free. Don't even have to get that nasty shot of novacaine! good luck.

Pick an older dentist that still knows what "bedside manner" is, and isn't in a rush to make a million $ to pay off his car note. Calmer, and less crowded schedule,,,,gentler hands...mellower dudes........My boss, (dentist) is always told by new patients that he has such "gentle hands"! Makes me wonder about the other guys........

We all share the same dilemma. I'm also not fond of dentists, so I'm using Crest White Strips sample for whiter teeth. Instead of having dental laser procedure, I browsed this site http://www.upkb.com/crestwhitestrips.php for product info.

Not all dentists are nasty hurtful sadists. You can find a good one. Ask
your friends who they have and see the best one. I don't like going either
but the alternative is horrid teeth. I find that meditation helps me when I'm
in the chair. I go to my happy place, honestly, it helps.

Yes, they can! It's called Sleep Dentistry. Just find someone that does it in your area. They put you under with an IV. I had to have $7000.00 worth of work done in 3 hours and I was out for the WHOLE thing :o)!!!!

The only thing that you have to fear is fear itself, and your dentist only wants to take care of your dental hygiene. You have nothing to worry about because I'm sure that he'll make your visit as pleasurable as possible.
