My 4 year old had a mild case of impetigo last month. She had about 12 spots on her back, hips and legs. Can she get this again or is she 'immune' from it now? I was trying to find this out online. I assume she got it from preschool that she attends, but I asked and the teachers said they hadn't heard of any other child there that had it. Any help is appreciated.

One can not become immune to bacterial infections, impetigo is a bacterial infection casued by Streptococcal bacteria. It can re occur as long as one is exposed to the bacteria. No one at the day care needed to have impetigo to infect your child with it. A child with strep throat could have sneezed on your child, your child wiped away the "sneeze" then touched a "lesion" on her skin and the bacteria could have been trasnfered that way. That is why it is so important to teach children how to cover coughs and uses tissues when whiping their noses or sneezing and how to wash their hands regularly and to keep themselves clean. It is also imporant to keep their clothing and surroundings clean. I've posted a link about Group A Streptococcal
