I keep seeing people say things like "This guy wrote a book on this religion and after doing research he converted to that religion!" But I find no evidence for this when I look them up.
Are people just making it up to try and make their arguments seem valid?

What I'm asking for is some sort of proof that a scientist converted to a religion after studying it.

Suzanne. For a start, that's Wikipedia - anyone can edit that list. Secondly, I asked for scientists, not everyone in history. There's hardly anyone that's relevant to my question there. Thirdly, I asked for evidence of conversion after studying. These people may have just converted at a young age or even on their death bed.

I'm not sure he's still alive, he suffered from ALS, but Stephen Hawking held the chair in Physics at Cambridge University and was considered one of the top physicists in the world. He was the one that came up with theories about the Big Bang and black holes.
He also calculated the mathematical probability of God. He said that according to the math, there is no way that everything in the universe happened by random chance and that there had to be a "force", such as God, behind it.

I do not know of any who were famous and atheist who changed after studying religion, I have heard however some changing their view after studying science a number of years. I think it was Einstein who was either atheist or agnostic and before he died he believed that life was created instead of just happening and that there is some kind of intelligent being and Creator, but he was not Christian,. he just went from not knowing and doubting to believing in a supreme intelligence of some kind., but he did not know what to call it exactly.
Now if this is not true don't blame me, blame all the preachers and televangelists I have heard this from for the last 45 years.

Yeah, I'd like to see a list as well. Along with the "proof" that Darwin recanted his heresy on his death bed.
And the proof that the earth is only 5,000 years old.
And that dinosaurs co-existed with man.
And some evidence that there is no evidence for evolution.
How long do you think I should hold my breath?

it's meaningless, i'm sure that if you try hard enough you can find examples of people doing things to support almost any viewpoint imaginable, ex. there may be "scientists" who converted to religion after doing research, but I am also sure there are plenty of scientists who left religion after doing research.

Many didn't have to convert, but had faith before hand. A good scientist seeks answers. A poor one tries to make the ansers fit.

They are very few and far between and greatly outnumbered by those religionists who rejected belief because it was contradicted by scientific evidence.

actually, I'm recalling one of the ultra-fundementalists who decided to "prove" the bible was litterally true.
after all his research, he's an agnostic today.
