1) Chicken has to be alive, dip in a big pot of cold water for 30 seconds, then let it out. That water in the pot, that's the soup.
2)Get rid of the feathers if you need a down jacket for winter.
3)For extra flavoring, yes keep the guts intact.

:)

you can have an already dead one so you wouldn't have to get rid of the feathers. but if you like raise one, like lifestock or something, slit the neck, keep the blood, you can get rid of it if you wanted to.

then cut off the head(it's of no use). boil some water while doing this. then when it is boiling, dip the fowl in and pluck the feathers.

get the guts out and grill them. clean them first, of course.

When making chicken soup, I think she should definitely be alive - with both feathers and innards intact... how else is she going to sit down and enjoy the soup with you?
Make sure she tucks in her napkin.

First the chicken crosses the road. Then you feed the chicken the matzo balls and he dips his feet in the water - Voila': Soup

no no no.... drop the live chicken (after you have removed the feathers, of course-save the feathers for garnish) into boiling water just as you would a lobster.
