Reading the responses to this question makes me believe that not all who have answered understand how a belly button or navel is formed...it is a point of insertion of the umbillical cord which runs from the fetus to the placenta of the mother...if adam and even were not products of live birth, then no, they would not have reason to have belly buttons/navels.

It's a possibility. But I prefer to read Genesis as meaning that God created man's physical body 'from the dust of the earth' at the same time that he made every other living thing, via a mechanism we today call evolution. I think his soul was breathed in at the time that mankind became 'human', and able to make cool stuff out of stone.

Here's a new one for you:

Adam and Eve were almost perfect beings, but the repeated inbreeding necessary to start the rest of the human race led to gross mutations and imperfections, leading to where humans are today.

On a similar note relevant to the question; If Adam was made out of dirt, why was Eve made out of Adam? Was there a sudden shortage of dirt?

Well, maybe Adam didn't have one--but Eve gave birth to children so she must have had one eventually. I guess that's a question we can ask when we get to heaven.
