murphy's laws of combat
You are not Superman.
If it's stupid but it works, it isn't stupid.
Never draw fire; it irritates everyone around you.
Odd or conspicuous objects attract fire. Never lurk behind one.
Armored vehicles are bullet magnets.
Incoming fire has the right of way.
It's not the one with your name on it; it's the one addressed "to whom it may concern" you've got to think about.
The only thing more accurate than incoming enemy fire is incoming friendly fire.
Tracers work both ways.
If the enemy is in range, so are you.
If the sergeant can see you, so can the enemy.
Those who hesitate under fire usually do not end up KIA or WIA.
There is nothing more satisfying than having someone take a shot at you, and miss.
Avoid loud noises; there are few silent killers in a combat zone.
One enemy soldier is never enough, but two is entirely too many.
Try to look unimportant. The enemy may be low on ammo.

+ There is another one that you should look up from a speech made to the Northern troops of the Civil war?

It starts with 50% of you will never see battle, of that 50% only 50% will be within gun range, of that 50% only 50% will be fired at,and on and on until it got down to about 1% Where it ended with 1% will never feel a thing.

I am not sure where to find it but it sounded encouraging at the time I read it.

Good luck

The enemy will attack at the worst possible time at your worst or weakest point in the line.

Friendly fire isn't.

Professional soldiers are predictable; the world is full of dangerous amateurs.

Military Intelligence is a contradiction.

Shoot em all down, let god sort them out later.

Mines are equal opportunity weapons.

Killing for peace is like screwing for virginity.

The most dangerous thing in the world is a Second Lieutenant with a map and a compass. (not to mention they attract enemy fire).

The complexity of a weapon is inversely proportional to the IQ of the weapon's operator.

Air strikes always overshoot the target, artillery always falls short (or vice versa).

When you have sufficient supplies & ammo, the enemy takes 2 weeks to attack. When you are low on supplies & ammo the enemy decides to attack that night.

The bursting radius of a hand grenade is always one foot greater than your jumping range.

Every command which can be misunderstood, will be.

If your positions are firmly set and you are prepared to take the enemy assault on, he will bypass you. If your ambush is properly set, the enemy won't walk into it. If your flank march is going well, the enemy expects you to outflank him.

You missed the most important one of all: It doesn't usually matter what the heck you do, or how stupid it is, so long as you do it faster than the enemy. Make up your mind and stay flat.

EDIT: Oh, and I though of twomore: If you try to raise hell you'll just end up going there; Heroes of legend were impervious to bullets, yes, but if you're a hero of legend then these rules don't apply to you anyway.

Those are the only LAWS in combat. They will always prove correct.

Good ones, and more truth there than I care to think about.

About the only one I can think of that you forgot is:

If it can be seen, it can be hit. If it can be hit, it can be killed.
