Since I have several prescriptions that are filled by mail in 3-month supplies, some of which I take 3 times a day, there are times I need to count how many I have left of several of them to figure out when they'll run out so I can mail the new script in, in time. (If I did them all as soon as get them, I'd be broke). Can anyone suggest a regular system I could use for counting that might save me a little time? Hope this is clear enough. Thanks for any good suggestions.

I find it helps to put the date of the first pill I take on the lid of the bottle. If you remember to take them all, you will be able to do the math and reorder. This also helps if you think you forgot a dose, count what's left. Or just mark your calender in red on the date to order.

Counting systems? ... o_0;

You can't just.... y'know.... count?

Well... how about this...
I find that the human brain can identify groups of five quite easily, which is appropriate since we use a base-ten counting system. Theoretically that means you can count them off five at a time rather than taking them individually... That should quicken the process.
Just pour 'em out on a flat surface and pull them away into a second pile five at a time.

Alternatively... since they're medical pills, they should be weighed precisely.
That means that if you weigh say... ten of them individually on some sort of scale... (provided you can)... then add the weights together and divide by ten to get an average.... you can determine literally the average weight of one of the pills.
Then its just a matter of pouring out the remaining pills at any given time onto the weighing scales, noting the overall weight and dividing by the weight of one pill to get the number of pills.
If you cannot determine the weights of individual pills initially you might have to do it with larger groups, weighing the average of each group, and then eventually dividing by the number of pills in a group to get the individual weight...

I mean... technically we're dealing with mass rather than weight... but the two translate pretty well as a standard so it doesn't really matter in this case.

get the pharmacy to pre-package your meds in a dosette or "blister pack" packaging...that way, at a glance you'll know exactly how much you have at one time.

Ask them first if there's a charge for this service.
