This happens all the time with my dog, I call it "puppy fever". It's just stored up energy. Before you go to bed, try playing fetch with her or let her run around somewhere. You can also try catching her and cuddling her next to you in bed, this usually works with my dog. She doesn't seem to understand that its bedtime. I hope this helps, good luck!

Your dog could be testing the your dominance. I don't know why it would be regularly a once a month thing. Unless she for some reason "expects" to be shut out of your room at night once a month. Do you ever have "company" where you must shut her out of the room temporarily?

That aside, first, make sure that your dog getting enough exercise? If not set up a regular walking schedule, preferably in the evening when this occurs. Personally, I don't like dogs in my bed. It upsets the dominance factor, so I would move her out. Place a nice soft doggie bed on the floor next to yours. Dogs are like children. Make a routine. Walk in the evening, followed by their meal, maybe some relaxation watching tv and then bedtime.

Teach her what bedtime means. Tell her "time for bed". If you have to, put her into her bed (wherever that is)to teach her what that command means. You have to let her know what YOU expect of her. Do this every night. Repetition is key to learning. She will quickly learn what "time for bed" means if you treat her, when she does as you ask. She could be panicking because you have closed her off from you previously and she thinks that this is the day. Teach her that she will never be restricted from you when she behaves. If you must, use a crate to put her bed in. Reassure her that you are there at night, but by using a crate you also let her know that her energetic behavoir at night is unacceptable.

Dogs are truly like children. They are also a reflection of thier owners. Commit the time to make your dog exceptional!

You should keep a calender and see if there is a particular day of the month that this happens. It could be a cycle, and if it is you should watch out for that day. When the day comes you can take your dog out on a long walk, watch out and make sure she doesn't take walks, and keep her energetic during the day, not at night. You can also give her a treat such as a Kong filled with cream cheese. This can keep her distracted from scratching at the door when you put her out of her room. If this continues to be a major problem I would suggest visiting a vet or animal behaviorist. Good luck!

It sounds like your dog has a lot of energy she isn't releasing during the day.

Do you work? Is the dog home alone during the day? If so, you should try to walk her in the mornings so she is able to get some exercise and release her energy.

If that doesn't help, maybe she's hearing or smelling something that you aren't aware of and she's trying to let you know. They usually have a reason, even if we can't seem to figure it out!

Good luck.

My dogs does this sometimes. I have always noticed that they sleep more those days. Also the moon has a lot to do with it. For they want to go outside and ck every thing out before they get ready for bed. Good luck I hope that will help u.

Sounds like she's not getting enough exercise during the day, and is being spoiled the rest of the time. I'm not telling you you're bad, but you have to teach her disipline. If you do not allow her on your bed when you're sleeping, she wont try it once a month. I have taught my dogs to only get on our bed when he's asked. He will get on the guest bed by himself (because he's never been told no because we dont mind) but he knows he's not allowed on our bed in the middle of the night. Other than, the curtain falling and scaring him and he jumped across the bed to get away, he's never tried while I was sleeping.

Sometimes dogs just get excited. She may sence something, good or bad, who knows. When this happens you can buy these plug in things which contains a calmitive for dogs. You can buy them at a pet store. You can also buy calmatives for dogs in a small chewable tablet. That's what we give to our lab before we visit the vet. Childrens benadryl will also calm the dog down quickly, and none of these things are harmful.

Keep track and see if it happens to happen on the first night of a full moon. I can always tell when the full moon starts because I don't sleep well. Animals can be really sensitive to the full moon as well.
