If they are so happy being alone, why are they looking for someone. They can't have it both ways. Either someone wants to be part of a relationship, or they want to be alone. Being in a relationship is about sharing, not independence.

You bring up a very valid point, but I think what they mean is that they can take care of themselves and are not the clingy type and are not just after a man to take care of their basic needs...it doesn't mean the don't want to share their life with somebody. Hope this helps and made sense.

Because every man says he wants an "independent" woman. To him that means she cooks, cleans, and does laundry independently. To her that means she goes out with her girlfriends while he helps around the house. Yeah - - - Like that is going to happen. If either uses this cop out in the message - move on to the next ad.

Because a person wants companionship, in your eyes they're not allowed to be an individual anymore. Do they lose their identity to be a partner to you? If the answer is yes, this may be the reason you're having a problem finding a person to be in a relationship with you. It sounds more like you want control over your girlfriend instead of having a partner in a relationship.

Saying they are independent doesn't mean they are saying they want to be alone and out of the love circle, it's saying they have the ability to live for themselves, care for themselves and they do not need a man to do that.

Being independent doesn't mean they like being alone, it just means they have the means to support themselves and aren't looking for someone to support them.
Definition:
1) : not requiring or relying on something else
(2) : not looking to others for one's opinions or for guidance in conduct
(3) not requiring or relying on others (as for care or livelihood)

I have used the word "independent" in my profile but did not mean it they way you are interpreting it. For me, I wanted to let the guys know that I do have a full time job, I am responsible for any debt I incur, daddy no longer supports me....I meant it in a financial way.

I think by "independent" they mean that they are not looking for a man to take care of them financially. Just a guess.

We do that so the guy knows that we don't like getting bossed around by anybody else.

When they say that, they want to make it seem like they are not clingy or dependent types.
