Ainy Silver, before you jump to conclusions - I DID NOT eat the cake. I was asking to make sure because some people say the alcohol burns off and the flavour only remains.

No, because alcohol is najis, so even if it has evaporated, you would have to wash the cake with water several times to remove the najisat, and you can't wash a cake.

I'm not sure about wine vinegar, but I know regular vinegar is allowed.

I would say no just to be safe. All of the alcohol may not have burned off the brandy. I dont believe the red wine vinegar is cause for alarm. Eid Mubarak :)

I think it is fine to ask a question about eating a cake, etc. Don't your fellow members of the mosque support you on such matters or do they look down on you if you make such small mistakes? FYI, I can assure you that there are a few molecules of alchole remaining. Does this mean you are going to hell now? What happens if you eat some fermented fruit. Same thing? Tough deal...

What I'm curious about is what the hell do you care if you accidentally ate the wrong type of cake or not? That should be between you and god, yes?

The way you are acting is silly. It is as if you are trying to say to all of your fellow muslums - hey everybody, look at me! I'm a wonderful muslum because I am without sin because I do everything perfectly (as if eating a stupid piece of cake is really going to make a difference in the grand scheme of things). Look at me! See me? I always eat the right type of cake.

It is just as silly as the person waving the $100 bill around prior to placing it into the basket so that all the fellow members can see it and see that he/she is a better member than they are.

Good lord. Why not just keep what you do between you and god? This includes transgressions, fasting, good deeds, etc. As far as I am concerned, if you are bragging about the good stuff or complaining about the difficult stuff, you aren't doing it for the glory of god - you are just trying to impress the muslums around you and I just think that is pathetic. Keep it to yourself.

Just wondering...

If in doubt - don't eat it. I personally will not eat anything that has ingredients forbidden in Islam. Brandy is forbidden and by adding Brandy to the cake the cake is contaminated. I use orange juice in my fruit cakes and the cake turns out beautiful. Anyways Eid Mubarak to you and your family.

You should know that brady and wine is critically restricted for Muslims, how can you eat a food product containing any of these things.

thats a good question.....islamically it says it is forbidden the use of alcohol at all, but it is scientifically correct that alcohol does cook away, and the flavor remains. baked goods would be questionable, because it is not cooked on "direct heat".
