You may want to leave a little pool of water in the sink. Cats typically don't like stepping in pools of water so that might dissuade it from stepping in the sink and therefore - no pooping!
Cats also don't like the feel of aluminum foil on their feet, so if they are going somewhere you don't want them to, put aluminum foil there. That or double sided tape works. I used it to keep my cat from jumping on the kitchen countertops.

put a towel (preferably one that you don't use) over the sink. They will wonder where the sink has gone and return to their litter box. I did the same thing when my cat started sleeping and defecating in the sinks, and she returned to normal after the towel was placed over the sinks.

If this doesn't work, try letting the faucet drip a bit, as was stated in a previous response. I know it wastes water, but it may help your problem.

Sometimes this could also be a sign of and underlying problem such as a Urinary Infection...they pee outside to get your attention (body language of a cat)- It is better than going on the floor or couch but it may be a prob. that u should get checked.
I'm assuming u keep the box cleaned out everyday...try switching litter also, sometimes that could be the easiest solution.

Take care

It has been my experience that if a cat changes its litter box habits, it should be seen by your vet, it may have a urinary problem and this is its only way to tell you.
