kosher means it has been blessed by the rabbi

First off, kosher does not mean 'blessed by a rabbi'.

But to answer your question...one of the purposes (or at least the by-products) of the kosher laws is that it severely limits the social interaction between jews and gentiles. For instance, a jew who keeps kosher would not likely attend a function where non-kosher food is being served as they wouldn't eat anything and that fact could and would breed animosity amongst the other guests. The result is that, especially in the ancient world, the limited interaction means the greatly reduced probability that intermarriage would occur.

Intermarriage and apathy are the two greatest problems facing judaism in the modern world.

Eating kosher affects your social life the same way as being a diabetic, you have limit resources. So say you are at a meeting and are offered non-kosher coffee you would have to decline because of dietary restrictions as a diabetic must always note not to put sugar in the coffee. True limits of socialness is when you can't go somewhere because you have to eat, so say the office goes out for lunch you would have to sit there and eat nothing if the food is not kosher or if your pals were going out and you know that you would get hungry and there is only non-kosher food in the area you would have to not eat or bring your own food.

Well not every restaurant has food that is kosher so perhaps that might affect a Jew's social life to some extent because they wouldn't be able to eat there with their friends.

Don't offer them bacon and eggs for breakfast, I know that one!! Or invite them to a restaurant they have to drive to during Sabbath.

Look up kosher food on the internet, and I think there are observance periods as well.
