I also want to know are there any laws forbiding me from building a moat around my entire house. Is there a possibility I could put spikes in the moat as well.

Check with your local city council. Most cities have a 6 foot limit on wall building, after all they don't want you building fortresses.

The city or town zoning department can answer this one... and their answer is pretty clearly going to be "no", unless you live in the center of 100s of provately owned acres of land where you can't be seen anyway!

Anyway, why put spikes in the moat? It only annoys the alligators!

Probably, your local zoning commission or office. If no zoning commission try looking at the people in your town/city that approve construction plans. And, I believe you can do just about anything with your own property.

Go to the City Hall in you town, ask the City secretary to see the local city ordinances.
