If you want to be a photographer, it would be very helpful!

Education can take many forms:

You could read books on the subject, take a course by mail, read every magazine on the subject that you can lay your hands on, attend a college, get OTJ training, visit galleries, join a local photo club, or good old trial and error.

One of the best forms of education is to take photos, examine them to see why it's not perfect, debug the problems, and apply that knowledge to the next scene that is like that.

Take 1000's of photos, and by 3,000 or so, you might have a few prize winners.

Classes are always good to take because they can teach you things that you can't always learn on your own. I went to school for photography before changing majors, I benefited from what I learned there, but there is a lot that cant be taught in a classroom. Sometimes you just have to get out there and learn from your mistakes. All I can say is, having too much knowledge/education cant hurt you.

Photography is just like any other profession - if you want to be good you need to take classes and the big one practice practice.

I have been a professional photographer for 18 years and photography teacher for 9 years and I will be still learning as long as technology continues to change.

Classes give you a great base to start on, It is like building a house you need to learn from the base/foundation up - certain colleges have professional photography courses - select what you would like to learn and take it.

If you want to be a professional Photographer it is very important. I am only an amateur and I found that taking a few classes very helpful. Taking good pictures is more that pointing and clicking. It is an art.
