the inside lining of my mouth is starting to peel, or something like that. i'm not sure why, so i was wondering what you guys thought, or if it has happened to you, and whether or not i should see a doctor. its been going on now for like 2 days. i had recently started a whole new oral healthcare thing and not sure if maybe that is what had caused it? or if something more sinister at work... i also have a tongue ring, but i doubt that could cause it since i've had it for almost a year now. plus, its like my WHOLE mouth thats peeling. help?

Don't panic, the same thing happened to my friend and I, turns out it's the toothpaste. Some brands with all that special anti-tartar control chemical will cause the inside layers of your mouth to peel. Just change brands of toothpaste, if that doesn't work try different brand of mouthwash. You might want to try Tom's of Maine, it has only natural ingredients, no harsh chemicals.
Good Luck,

You should definitely see a doctor.

Even with pictures, no doctor will answer diagnose you online because of liability issues and because a good diagnosis would be based on a thorough interview and physical exam, which would best be done in person.

The doctor will ask you about recent changes in your habits: diet, sex practices (new partners?), medications and oral healthcare products. S/he will also want to see the affected area and may even scrape a sample from it.

Your tongue ring may not have caused this condition, but "by the (text)book," there is no time limit for the development of allergic reactions to foreign bodies.

1 year is a long time to wait. Don't delay any further.

DISCLAIMER: I am not a board certified/board eligible physician. Bottom Line: See a doctor. Seriously. Best of luck to you.

It is probably nothing to worry about but to diagnose the exact reason, do you rinse a lot with mouthwash? Mouthwashes (irrespective of the brand) has alcohol in it and it will cause superficial sloughing of the epithelium (Lining of the mouth). If you do rinse with mouth wash, discontinue and see if your signs disappear. Hope that helps.

It sounds like an allergic reaction. I would see your doctor asap. It's probably not serious yet, but it could get that way if you delay.

Almost certainly it is the oral "healthcare thing."

Please consult with the dentist asap. I've known people who have had something similar. It's not serious, but it's not normal either.
