i bought a new dress, its one of those cute-sy A-line dresses and i realised that i need a cool hairstyle to go with it. any suggestions?

You need to give more information for the best tips. Like the bodice and neckline (halter, strapless, cap sleeves, fitted, ruched, etc...) your face shape, and hair type (wavy, straight, curly, long, short, etc...)
For the best general look, try a style that's half up and half down. That way you are showing off your lovely face and any accessories, but the loose style in the back keeps your look fun and flirty. It's not as severe and formal as a full updo, but more dressy than leaving it all down. Try curling or waving the back, and using some great hair accessories that complement the dress.

It really depends on a. the way the dress is on the top, not just the A-line. b. the length of your hair. c. where you'll go. I would imagine curling your hair (wavy) and putting it up quite loosely, not a real updo, but a free updo is nice, for an evening dress.
