Woman in Islam are horrifyingly oppressed, abused, and mistreated. The most obvious for of inequality is polygamy in Islam which allows a man to marry up to four women! How can this possibly be logical? Why do woman in Islam accept this. Can’t they see that when a man marries 4 women that makes a woman worth ¼ of a man? Women in Islam are literally sex slaves. “If a woman spends the night deserting her husband's bed (does not sleep with him), then the angels send their curses on her till she comes back (to her husband),” said Mohamed. Also, "If a husband calls his wife to his bed (i.e. to have sexual relation) and she refuses and causes him to sleep in anger, the angels will curse her till morning." See faithfreedom.org/Articles/quran_teaches.htm
It really is sickening: the way men treat woman as their property, deciding if they may work or if they must wear Hijab! In Islam woman exist to serve men and please them. A woman is totally governed by her father/brother/husband/Son! WHY?

This is written in the Hebrew Talmud, the book
where all of the sayings and preaching of
Rabbis are conserved over time.
It says: "Be very careful if you make a woman
cry, because God counts her tears. The woman
came out of a man's rib. Not from his feet to be
walked on. Not from his head to be superior, but
from the side to be equal. Under the arm to be
protected, and next to the heart to be loved." jesus rocks!

I do not know why nowadays there is a harsh attack on Islam and Muslims, I think the reason for this is what the media portrays positioning Muslims as butchers, inhuman terrorists.. the Bush administrator has started this and unfortunately some stupid few Muslims fanatics has made the rest and fed this fire of hatred. Well there are some fanatics in Islam –like any other religion in the world- this is true .. but they are not the majority and this is the fact that no one wants to know or admit… unfortunately those few ignorant fanatics are characterized by a loud voice, narrow minded prospective and most important a ready made license to accuse every thing and every one at any time… those few have caused a lot of damage to the moderate intellectual majority Muslims that lives across the globe.

I am a Muslim who is married… my wife is not veiled….. she works in a multinational advertising agency in the planning department, she has a successful career … we have a 5 years old daughter. I am not married to any other woman and I do not have this intention … for I love my wife … I wish that we can judge people by their deeds, their behaviors and attitudes towards life with all its associations ..rather than accusing a particular person because of his race, gender and religion

It is about time to stop this stereotype judgments

You are terribly mistaken muslim women are no more oppressed then western women. First of all over 90% of muslim men are married to one woman. And there are conditions before a man can just go and marry another woman for one he has to ask her permission before he goes ahead and gets married. And if she has no problem with it then way should you.P.S the bible is full fo religious figures marrying dozens of wives and some dont even dignify it by calling them wives they call them concupines.
And what you have conveniantly forgotten to mention is that if a woman calls her husband to her bed and he refuses then he also gets cursed by the angels.
Now let me tell you a bit about myself I am an educated American muslim woman with a PHD.I am married to a loving caring wonderful muslim man and I have 4 wonderful children (3 girls 1 boy). And I also wear hijab.I wore my hijab at 16 with the disapproval of my family especially my father and my brothers. They understandibly were worried about the discrimination that I would experience; I also believe that they were worried that people might view them as oppressive controlling men(stereotype) .But I decided that I wanted to wear it because I believe with all my heart that Islam is true ;so no other human being is going to controll me.So before you judge Islam, maybe you should get your info from a reputable muslim source not a site thats goal is to defame Islam.I wish you well, peace.

You sound like a feminist. I do not think that it is oppression. I support polygamy, and I do not think that it degrades women. It makes since to me that a woman should be expected to have sex with her husband. As for men having governance over women, it has been like that since the Garden of Eden, in which it was determined that a woman would be under the command of her husband, or her father before marriage. The people who are against this are probably feminists. I also think that the hujab is a great thing to prevent sexual temptation. The women's position has only been like this for about the past forty years, because of feminism, a movement that I do not agree with. Muslim women are respectable. They just follow a hiearchy that the modern world has come to go against very recently.

It's more complicated than that isn't it?
Some muslim women are oppressed by some men who interpret Islam in a particular way, but others are quite independent and unoppressed - just one example: the many doctors and teachers in Egypt and other muslim countries.
Some followers of Islam are not alone in oppressing women. Don't forget Western "civilization" in England did not allow women the vote until less than a 100 years ago and equality has still not been achieved in government, big business or indeed in the home (housework, for example). And the Christian church still discriminates hugely against women. All of this needs to change as well.

Here men can marry with only 1 woman and they can't do sex when their wifes don't want it :-)..But the other Islamic countries it's like that..It's bad, I know..And I don't accept to wear hijab.I don't support it as a Muslim woman..I think Islam should be more modern..I don't say we should wear mini-skirts, bodies etc. but some women wear black hijab and we can't see her face. It's not good at all..But the good things don't happen to women when we say these things..And men..I don't think that Qur'an is so unfair for Muslim women as much as u said..I think its reason is education. The education isn't good as much as Western countries'..I hope they will beat this with education..I wish them patient and nice days..

Can women in the UK appreciate that unlike some countries, they have the choice to wear the veil or not?

Women in this country have starved and thrown themselves in front of racehorses as well as gone to prison for the right to vote, and have continue to campaign for over a 100 years for equal rights.

It is nothing to do with religion, that the majority of women in the UK feel appalled that women around the world are often 2nd class citzens, and that Muslim women in the UK could show a beacon of hope to these women that things can change, rather than be used as political pawns by religious fanatics. Use you freedom in this country to help Muslim women across the world have the same choice as you do.... to wear the veil or not, rather than have it forced on them.

1st understand the 6 basic needs of humans. (Basic Sociology) 2nd remember that the muslum faith derived in the middle of a tyranical environment where these basic needs were sought after in primitive ways. Consider the caveman theory of behavior and then read more about current arab behavior. Not much has changed. Just a side note....most of the world was like that at the time when it came to women. The arab countries have just joined the "civilized/educated" world about 60 years ago. Will take a long time before they are developed enough to adopt the majority of the worlds thinking when it comes to human relations.

Because their religion is fanatical and they take everything that Mohammed says as gospel!

What pisses me off is the fact that they look down their nose at non muslim women because we are independent and not treated like "slaves" by our men.

I have a friend whom was Muslim and she detested the religion and the oppression that went with it. Her family has disowned her and she has moved over to France to be with her non-muslim boyfriend and live her own life without following this fanatical religion!

She says that her family regarded white women as "scum" because we have freedom of speech and live our life independently!

One way is by being brainwashed, as " z9y2a8sdf32q -", who answered this question before me.

"z9y2a8sdf32q -", a beautiful Arabic name that means "the one that touches a keyboard for the first time", says: "I love Islam so much, this beautiful religion that taught me what life means, how to be human being, how to balance my life and my family". After her answer, we all know now that the Islam way "to be a human being" consists in answering a fair, but tough question like yours, using unacceptable personal insults such as "you bastard" or "you ignorant retarded".

I have been always fascinated by people that claims to be so religious, but show so much hate when you criticise their religion. What a contradiction... Or not...
