I have some personal email files which were created using Windows XP (Outlook 2002) but my company is still running Windows 2000 and the associated Outlook which I cannot upgrade at present. Looking for suggestions on how to convert the newer pst files for use with the older system please.

They are not backware compatible!

Compatibility is purely dependant on the method used to create the personal folder. If the defaults were accepted, it should view in all versions from Outlook 97 - Outlook 2002. If it was created as a 2002 personal folder, then you can only view in 2002 and 2003 (I think 2003 can see it).
Try an import/export.
