I bought a dry 15-bean mix for soup today. I usually do the quick-soak method, but I thought I'd heard somewhere that if you do them in the crockpot for like 8 hours you don't need to soak or quick-soak them. Can I just put the dry beans in the crockpot or do I need to quick-soak them? Thanks.

wow-hey i cook my beans all the time in a crock pot!! no,you don't have to soak them.i always add my seasonings and turn it on high and in about 4-5 hours, they're done. BUT,if you're not going to behome to watch them [they sometimes boil over,if to much wateris in there] you'll want to have your pot on low. to me and my family the beans has a better flovor cooked in the pot.

I've been cooking beans for 40 years and thank God for the crock pot. Now I just throw them in dry and walk away. No soaking needed.

It's probably quicker to do a quick soak, but for a hassle free soup you can use them dry.
It does take a while though and uses a lot of gas/electricity in your slow cooker. 10 hours is a long time.
