Yep, people pigeonhole you when they decide you're religious. Then your freedom is limited, because their mind is closed to the full spectrum of your thinking that you'd like to share with them. That's why I dislike labels and stereotypes. They're limiting.

Most of the stereotypes you hear about people of religions--ALL religions--are based on a tiny sliver of truth that becomes horribly twisted to the point where the stereotype becomes a near lie.

When people ask me if I am religious, I say, "I am a Christian."
I think religion has gotten a bad rap lately, because of all the scandal from those claiming to be "religious." But the thing is, it is more important to be a real follower of Jesus Christ, than to follow any of the religions to the letter of the law...Yes, I think we should still obey the Word of God, but if you look, Jesus didn't come to set up a particular religion, he came to bring people to know His Father. And in the end that is all that will matter -- what Jesus and His Father think of you.
To answer your question, I think people do sterotype us if we say we follow Christ, or that we talk to Him. We suddenly become one of those crazy people...who claim to "talk to God" -- imagine that!! But a lot of those making fun of us who "talk" to Him claim to be Christians... so tell me, who is crazy the one who claims to have a relationship, but never talks to the other Person in the relationship? Or the one who enjoys it because they are in communication with their Father? If I am "crazy" -- at least I am enjoying the journey!! LOL! And don't worry about what others think of you. What you and God think - is all that matters.
UPDATE: I think that as far as sterotyping goes, it just shows how small minded a person is, that they cannot judge people on their own merits, and have to roll them all into a big ball...and judge them with someone elses opinion.
A person who really thinks for himself will know that not all of "anything" can be lumped together, as there are always individuals who aren't cookie cutter patterns...

It depends on the person's view of religion. I like religious people 'cause they might just be more trustworthy. I have to test that with each person, because you can't just live on a stereo-type. I'd say it's a good stereo-type, for me at least. Other people will automatically assume that you mean Christianity when you say 'religious' and think you're naive or prissy or judgemental or going to tell on them. You have to decide which is more important to you: your faith or the acceptance of others.

christians and muslims should be stereotyped since you all act about the same. condeming judgemental ignorant and hateful towards those who dont believe as you do now i can say the only two religions i can stereotype are those two i just said. if you ask me the other 348 religions dont need to be steroetyped anyways. they at least have the common sence to leave others the hell alone. but muslims and christians love to try and convert the world so i say screw you and your christian B.S. i dont need to hear about it since i know the truth and you dont
christians are morons!!!

religion is bad because it causes severe mental illness in the followers. followers are delusional because they believe anything they are told about their religion, not keeping in mind that all other religions think they are right too.
