The more I know people, the more I love my dog.

I have a 16 year old shih-tzu. He is my buddy. I got him the week I got married, and kept him after the divorce. He turned out to be a better companion than the man I married! There's an old saying .."The more I meet people, the more I like my dog"... and I believe there is a great deal of truth in that. Dogs are incredibly loyal. They are non-judgemental. They don't care what their human looks like or where they work. I know it will break my heart when it's him time to go, but I also know I have given him a wonderful home and 16 years of love. He goes for car rides, I treat him to ice cream,I am never scared when he is with me. I don't see anything wrong with it as long as we don't lose the human connection with humans.

"Until I had my son and now it's just a dog"
What the hell? How rude. So you stopped loving your dog the way you did before?
I hate when people do that when they have kids. Pets all of a sudden become a burden or a bother when you have children. You loved that dog before like it was your kid, why can't you do that now? So stupid.

Anyway, sorry to go off track but that comment got me going. ;)
It's okay to love your dog like that. There's nothing wrong with it. You just can't take it to extremes. For instance, don't put your human friends on the back burner for your dog.
But don't worry, pets are just like furry kids! Sometimes better behaved than most but we can only blame the parents for that!
So keep loving your dog the way you do. It's nice to know that you actually care enough to provide such a loving home. That's rare these days considering all the homeless pets out there.
Good luck with your baby!

It's great that you love her so much, just don't be unfair to her, don't take away what she truly is....She's a dog, and let her be a dog, don't confuse her by treating her like a human baby(many, many pet parents of small breeds end up doing that)....If aliens would abduct you one day and demand you act like a parrot from now on, you wouldn't be too happy, would you?....We are different species, and we need to learn to respect and accept our differences...You might think it's working out great, she's reciprocating your love, but it's possible she might develop issues, one of them could very well be that she's going to look at you as her possession, and she's going to start snapping at anyone who approaches you....
But, then again, I might be wrong, you could very well be one of the few fortunate people who have learned to speak a common language with their dogs....If that's so, disregard what I wrote in the beginning, and congratulations!!!!

Some people are just more attached to their dogs. In our home, our dogs are like 4 legged children and we love them just as much as we love our two boys. It just wouldn't feel normal not to have our dogs with us.

I am a photographer and do portraits of my children that go on my wall. I am currently working to get portraits done of our dogs so that I can frame them for the wall as well. Lot's of people think this is crazy to value our dogs this much, but I say to each their own.

I have to say yes or at least it is okay because I adore my Lab. He is one of the biggest parts of my life and I spoil him rotten. I consider him to be my son and my life does revolve around him. He was a gift to me from my dying brother so from day one I totally cherished him. But it is not only that my dog is always there for me, he is totally loyal, loves me no matter what and there is no way I could ever find a better friend. There are very few people that could ever be as loyal and as loving as your dog so it is easy to see why they mean so much to us. I have to say it is normal or at least right that you love them so much when all they give you is complete unconditional love.

It's normal to be close to your dog. In the end though, you have to remember that it is just a dog and not a human being. You still need to have relationships with other people instead of just staying at home with your dog every day.

OH i know what you mean. I am 14 and my cat is my LIFE she is my daughter........practically...and sometimes i feel kinda wierd cause i am so close to her......well she is a ALL black cat with some white on her and she goes to the dog shop and gets ehr fur cleaned once every 2 weeks. That is essential to me. But enough about me i think it is completly normal to love your dog in this way. But you can see from where I am coming from.

I had a Doberman Pinscher that I got as a puppy. He lived to be 12 years old (which is really old for this breed) & he was my best friend! When I had to have him put to sleep due to cancer, I cried as if he was my child & am not ashamed about it. I'm sure others will come along in your life that you will also love, but you will always be crazy about your dog.
