Very normal. A pet store of breeder would tell you to leave them be for a couple of days to adjust to a different environment. Put them in the place they will normally be - they do like to be in an area where there is normal everyday activity. Nothing too Loud though (medium volume on TV s, radio, peoples voices. Just don t try to physically socialize them until the following week and even that in baby steps.

They usually don t start playing with toys or you for even longer then a week until they really are comfortable with the space and or You.

The trembling seems a bit much - that might be because it isn t quite warm enough as it was where they were before or got chilled in the transfer-they are very sensitive in change with that. ANd they cannot be near anywhere they might get a draft - window, fan etc........ People have had suggestion of a heating pad on the bottom of the cage (paper over it). Or heat Lamp or space heater just in that area if you do not want to raise the temp of the whole place. Just make sure that the ways you whatever you raise the temp. with does not have telfon on any of its parts (this was another issue that was raised recently - especially with space heaters) Get a temperture guage ( they have ones that are cheap and good enough for this sort of thing) to put right near the cage - to make sure that the temperture doesn t get too hot - not above 85 or so and is high enough - not below 70 to be comfortable - if they are young ones.

They will be fine and come out of their shell soon enough-it takes patience with all the steps - if you push anything on them it will give them a set back and take even longer.

Good Luck

Birds take time to adjust to new surroundings. Your 'keets are behaving perfectly normally for an adjustment period. They should be fine within 3-4 days.

You might want to keep their cages covered part of the day (as well as all night) so that they feel more secure. When you approach them, you could try softly chattering at them, which could make them feel better too.

If you have any recordings of bird songs, or can find any on the web, I know they'd enjoy that a lot. Such as http://www.lisashea.com/petinfo/articles/bird_wav.html
Lots of good parakeet sounds here you can play for them.

Put them in a non traveled area of the room, take out the mirror and all but one toy. Try not to put the toy by their food. Cover one side of the cage and put their food in the covered area. After a few days remove cover. After a week add a toy etc.

If they're budgies? This is normal. Partially cover the cage to give them some privacy and let them adjust to the new smells and sounds of your home. If you have a nature CD with bird sounds, that helps too. Our budgie didn't sing for 3 weeks. Then one day I was playing reggae (don't ask why) and the bird started singing. By the time he died, he wasn't even a caged bird anymore. He would sit on the dining room table with us for dinner, dive bomb the cat (he terrorized the cat) and we couldn't have a conversation in the room because the louder we talked, the louder he sang. His favourite movie? Star Wars - he liked to talk to R2D2.

Cover three sides of their cage. There is obviously something that they are seeing that they were not exposed to previously, i.e., other pets, etc. Leave them covered until you see that they are adjusting and then slowly remove one side at a time over a few days. Also, provide them with a box of some kind in their cage so that they have control over being out in the open or not. You can get them at any pet store.

Good luck.

Get a heating pad and place it under the cage on high, cover the cage with a sheet or large enough towel and start keeping them warm. They will eat once they feel warm enough to move around and get their apitite back. Make sure you give them plenty of water. Also you could buy some ZUPREEM parakeet FRUIT pellets.

if you bought them yesterday it takes time for the birds to adjust to the atmosphere that they are in.when i got my two parakeets they done the same thing.but after awhile they got use to the place that they were in.think of yourself as being in their position and you just came from a pet store and than transferred to a home.you would be sorta nervous too wouldnt ya?so i recommend giving them some time to cope with being at the store with loud noises and stuff and let them rest for a few days and than they will eat and play like regular birds.hope this helps you and that your birds get to feeling better!
blessed be,

Your parakeets are in a new place, just give them time to adjust to your home. I would talk to them, but make sure you are not too close. They will get too scare to interact with you. My parakeet almost a 2 weeks, but you have to remember I only have one of them. Make sure you cover them at night, or when it's dark outside. I hope tht helps you!

I have two parakeets myself. Ringo and JoJo needed time to adjust to their cage. I talk to them and tell them I'm not going to hurt them. Sometimes they need reassurance. It will take some time, but they will adjust and be fine. Mine chatter all the time and they love their mirror. They always fight over it.
