Me and my roommate have had this ongoing argument about how long milk last after it has been open. I (and all of our friends) say its good till the expiration date, he says that it will only last about three days after you open it no matter when it expires, then he tries throwing it away. In which I usually stop him and use it until its gone (without ever getting sick). I hope this will help settle this once and for all. Thanks.

My husband has worked in the grocery store for 15 years and the thing about milk is the expiration date is for the store. They cannot have milk on the shelf after the experation date, Milk is good for up to 7 days after the date that is on the package.

Milk lasts 7 days after the expiration date. I've had it last longer. A lot depends on the temperature of your fridge. I keep mine cooler than most. If your fridge is warmer, (above 32 degrees Fahrenheit) it may not last as long.

Have to say that I have always followed the seven day rule as well with no side effects, as long as the milk is kept in the fridge ;) my husband has issues with this part!

The major thing to remember is that the date is WHICHEVER COMES FIRST, so even if it is opened only two days ago, if the best before was seven days, it's got to go.

Hope this helps

i spent several years managing restaurants and the rule is this:

7 days after opening or 7 days past the pull date on the container -- whichever comes first.

i have never had milk go bad using this provided it was kept in the fridg.
