My DR once told me that too much calcium could cause constipation. Try Activia.

Does Greek Yogurt Cause Constipation

All dairy products are binding to a certain degree, yes.

I assume that your diagnosis of "slow transit constipation" came from a GI specialist. Have you been recently? Maybe it's time to go back if not. There are new medications coming out all the time.

I NEVER, EVER take a laxative, and I have your problem, too. Actually, my problem is that I have extremes, almost never normal. I'll get in an even worse vicious cycle if I take a stimulant laxative. I take a stool softener when I get into serious trouble (more than 5 days w/out any output). I try to eat a lot of fiber including dried fruits and whole grains. I just had my gallbladder out in September due to gallstones, but it didn't help my digestive issues at all. I was eating an Activia daily, but IT DID NOT HELP AT ALL. So, I'm not a promoter of Activia. As far as I could tell, it's a placebo. It tasted very good, though. ;-) What has helped me the most (keep in mind that I'm only 37) is a daily fiber supplement. This helps BALANCE the amount of moisture in the system. Also, do not take any diuretics, and be sure that if you take any other med that it doesn't have constipation listed as a side effect.

So, my advice is to go back to the GI specialist. There has to be a better way other than living on laxatives for years. Be prepared to have him insist on an endoscopy -- upper and/or lower GI.

Oh, sorry to hear your not doing well. Ok this will sound crazy but maybe yogurt or maybe whatever is really causing the problem of your constipation is becuase your not suppose to be eating it because of whatever blood type you are. Call me crazy but eating according to whatever you bloodtyoe is can do wonders and take away many commen problems, such acid reflex, heartburn, constipation, bloating, drowsiness. These are all common problems we have after eating the wrong foods. Many of us just think its normal because it always happens. But its not normal, its your body trying to tell you that what you just ate doesn't agree with you. Go and look it up for yourself. Buy the book, and get your blood type checked. The bokks called "Live Right (4) For Your Blood Type" by Dr. Peter J. D'Adamo. It worked wonders for my mum who had a lot stomach trouble(abt 3 yrs. ago), and is now virtually free from any stomach trouble if she sticks to what she's suppose to eat.
TRUST ME IT WORKS!!! It'll make you feel better and much more energized, especially when your giving your body what it really needs, the right foods, the right nutrients. :p

Hope that helped!!

I have the exact same problem. Please let me know if you ever find a solution. I suffered from chronic constipation for about 7 years until the smell started. I have tried many different diets and changes to my lifestyle. I have undergone physio therapy, bowen therapy, acupuncture. I have seen numerous specialists. I had surgery (delormes procedure) for internal prolapse, and sacral nerve stimulation. These did not help. I think the delormes made things worse. I have not been diagnosed, suggesting the doctors do not know what the problem is. I try to keep my stools firm. I use glycerol suppositories. I also have a hose hooked up to my sink running to the shower, which I use like a colonic. This helps to clear me colon out, but sometimes it makes things worse by getting a load of water stuck in my bowel that wont come out. Long term this is probably not a good thing, but I don't have any other options. The last option my colorectal surgeon gave me was to get a bag.

Often if you take too many laxatives, this has an adverse effect and makes u constipated even more. Perhaps its the laxatives that are causing this? However, it depends what type of yorghurt it is... ? Is it a probiotic as they dont tend to make u consipated? Id suggest u increase the fibre in ur diet, and the amount of fruit and veg, making sure u eat a balanced and healthy diet - u never know u might notice a bit of a difference.

yogurt is supposed to help the digestive system but you are not supposed to eat too much of it. i loooove yogurt but i hate all the flavored kinds they have..you should try the no flavor organic yogurt. and just add honey to it when you eat it ..it tastes sooo good ..fresh yogurt. as for the constipation you really need to eat a lot of fiber. if you dont llike eating foods like wheat bread..grains..fruit like apples~ you should really start taking fiber pills. laxatives are really bad for u..its an unnatural way of getting the crap out. yyou could be asking for even worse problems in the future...i had really bad constipation too..i hated it ,,it hurt soooo much just to take a crap ,, you need to drink 8 fluid ozs of water every day ..try to drink 3 bottles of water a day atleast .,.make it habit to always take water with you, and eat foods with fiber and cut down on grease and mostly cheese! i was a cheese fiend and its one of the top foods that cause constipation..and like everyone said dairy ...too much and itll do it to ya. for now until you get better id say stay away from dairy and start eating lots of fruits and drink lots of water and the key is FIBER!!! you can do it.. i hope you get better ..cuz i have. good luck

It would be unusual but try not eating yogurt for a day or two and see if it helps.

No, in fact yogurt would help make you go. You're body became dependant on the laxatives (18 years???) and now they no longer work. You need to see a doctor.
