I have a dog with long fur (not the kind you have to trim) and once in a while she'll get her poo stuck in her fur so I have to wash her whole bum. Anyone know any tricks I can do before I take her out to help stop this from happening? WITHOUT trimming the fur.
Please serious answers only thanks :-)

Well, I don't mean to sound gross or anything but maybe her poo is too soft and that's why it's getting stuck. If that's the case, just add a spoonful of pumpkin to her food and it will firm right up.

There are also pre-dampened wipes called "Tooshie Wipes" that work pretty well post-bathroom, but that will only save you from having to hose down the whole back end. It won't help pre-poop.

But I work as a groomer, and really the only way to guarantee that nothing gets stuck is to perform the "sanitary trim." It really doesn't take that much fur off (just the fur right around the butt hole) and most of the time the owner hardly notices. This trim is performed on show dogs, even the ones that don't need to be trimmed. The only way you can tell the fur is gone is that the pooping problem disappears.

Dogs With Long Fur

When my sister had her pet shop, she also groomed dogs. My mom always referred to that area as their; "Britches". Mom would say; "Her Britches are dirty"! The only way to keep her britches clean, you have to trim them. I call that; "Making Cutoff Britches"! Ha!
You can buy a Beard Trimmer that men use at Wal-Wort, Dollar General etc. They about $10 if you keep an eye out. Battery operated. The younger the dog when you start using one makes it easier, as, they get older it harder to get them used to the Hum/Vibration. They have little attachments to adjust for length. With practice you can get to where you do a good job.
I know you want something different, I read the question, but, this is what we did. Maybe there is something else, I just do not know it. You could try brushing the fur away from the Blow Hole and in time it be trained away from that area.

I know you said you didn't want to trim her fur but it may be the only solution for you. There is a service that is very affordable...if you go to PetSmart and visit their groomers they can shave what they call the "Potty Trail" which is pretty much their butts and bikini area, lol.

My mom got a new spaniel mix and when he was a puppy the groomers recommended this because it was cheap, kept the dog clean and helped get them used to the groomer incase they wanted to keep him groomed in the future.

I think "Potty Trail" grooming cost $15 or something like that. Good Luck!!

on some dogs you can cut the fur in that area but it looks a little weird but poo won't get stuck to there fur anymore.

There's no other miracle way of poop not sticking to their fur....I have a cocker spaniel, I keep his coat short, it's more manageable, and no poopy stuck to his fur either....

You've got to trim the fur, but just around her bum...sorry, that's the only way I know of.

Trimming hair around the butt is the only thing that works for us. Not me, my dog. haha. I've tried going outside with him and wiping, but it still gets everywhere. Sorry couldn't help more
