I think of the slum towns I have been in Mexico- Juarez, Chihuahua, Nogales, etc. Where people live in shacks hat looks like they are going to fall off the side of a hill, where people lived in old train cars in the city center until the police came and burnt out the cars so people couldnt live in them anymore, where the roads have huge holes in them, etc. I think of a corrupt government that makes a very few very rich and keeps most other people quite poor. And I think of a contry that has a whole lot of potential if they can fix their problems- nice beaches, hardworking people, a lot of industry that has moved there, etc. If the Mexican people can get a government that helps them, Mexico can fix an awful lot of its problems.

Biggotry comes from fear and ignorance, the two tools most used by this administration to market it's propaganda, and gather support from it's constituency. They know their supporters are elitist biggots, who've convinced themselves that hate and judgement are moral. It works because it makes the biggots feel justified and righteous. It also helps distract the constituency from the REAL issues, and what the administration is really doing.

While America was pitted against itself arguing about immigrants, Bush pushed through the Military Commissions Act of 2006, which allows Bush to condemn any American citizen as an "enemy combatant", put him in military custody, deny him a trial or access to a lawyer, and hold him indefinitely. This denial of habeas corpus all but eliminates 9 of our 10 rights on our Bill of Rights.

Also, with the unconstitutional use of 'signing statements', he continues to nullify legislations passed by congress, and dictate his own laws. This is a total breakdown of democracy, and also thwarts any decisions handed up from the Supreme Court.

The fools think dictatorship is okay, as long as their guy is the dictator. There is NOTHING more treasonous to America, or the American way, than that thought.

Meanwhile, Bush has been busy building the NAFTA 'superhighway system' that will span our country. As early as next year our roads will be filled with Mexican truck drivers heading to Canada, and all ports. The biggots have been too busy spewing misplaced hate to even notice...just as Bush had planned it.

My picture of Mexico is this,,, A very rich country with a lot of extremely poor people corrupted government that don't give a damn about the citizen, poor educated, with a high air and water pollution, people eating out of trash cans, rich people that don't give a damn about the lower classes, poor wages, no jobs, bad health care system, abductions, etc., etc. The poor people begging in the streets, children living in the streets and your government and the rich people of your country doing nothing to change their conditions. Seeing your soap operas in the televisions and your people trying to show a picture of Mexico different for what really are. Seeing your TV programs and your artist talking like everything is normal in Mexico. You Mexicans coming to the USA and yelling out Mexico Lindo when you all know that if that was true you will all be in Mexico not trying to cross the border into the USA. Mexico Lindo for who, the illegals aliens, the people that are crossing the border or for the rich and powerful and corrupted that are draining the monies of your country. Wake up Mexicans, it getting late.

I think of the eastern portion of Mexico. I try not to think of Juarez as it is dirty. I loved Cozumel, didn't much care for Veracruz. I would consider retiring in Merida/Progresso. If you go two block out of the Mexican tourist areas you see how the towns really are. Step into a neighborhood bar and there is no air conditioner, but there are ceiling fans and corn on a stick. Corn, a cold beer, lively people, lively music, genuine people with good hearts.
I feel for the people in Mexico that are trying to come to the US to make a better life for their families. It's too bad that the drug cartel are out of control along the border.

I picture Nuevo Laredo. It's the only part of Mexico I've been to. The land of cheap tequilla and a pharmacy on every corner. I liked it.

I picture lots of color, interesting art, food I would like, things like that. I also have seen pictures of Mexico City and that seems too dirty for me with the smog. I picture people that seem to be warm and friendly and don't laugh too hard at me when I try to speak to them in English. I also see people that I can look in the eye (I'm pretty short), so it's easier for me to talk with them. I picture the problems and the good things. Same as any country.

I don't appreciate being called a gringo, Nor would you appreciate being called a racial slur,

I honestly think of corruption, poverty, Then after a while i think of some of the beautiful houses, beautiful children, beautiful womens traditional clothing, beaches, bronzed bodies,
I actually think a lot about Mexico, it is a beautiful place, it is a shame that some parts resemble a third world country.

We are going to California on vacation next week and are going to Mexico on a day trip. I have never been there before, so I have no idea what it is really like. I am looking forward to seeing it, though.
