the painting says, awakening. My grandparents in 1927 paid a dollar a month for it. It was framed in 1967. Is this original or a print? How much is it worth? Where can I get the most money for it

Are you sure it's the original painting or just a print copy of the original? Bessie Pease Gutmann was a fairly well-known Depression-era artist.

But when I do a search of this painting I get many people trying to sell their 'Awaking' prints. Like these:

If it's just another print it might not be worth a lot of money, no more than a few hundred dollars, depending on the condition of the print and the frame.

However, if it's actually the original, it could be worth a hundred thousand or more. Try going to the family's official web site for more information:

I'd advise you to take it to a professional appraiser. They will be able to give you the most accurate figure on how much it is worth and they can hook you up with someone who can help you sell it. If you don't need the money, then you should hold onto it. It will only appreciate in value and if your grandparents bought it such a long time ago, why not continue passing it down through the generations?
