There may be a book in the library that has a chart of hand signs. Or, see if there is a contact in a book at the library. I know I have gotten cards from deaf prople on occasion, but haven't seen one lately.

Hi. I learned sign language at my local college (when living in Notts) and was tutored by a deaf and dumb lady and her husband. This was an excellant way to learn because everything from the minute go is sign language and the odd use of a chalkboard. You pick things up much quicker as you are more vigilent whilst being taught/learning. It also comes in very handy ofton through out life and should be viewed as a second language. Definatly worth while (without taking into account your lady friend) and NOT a waste of time in any way shape or form ! Hope this helps.

Start by learning the alphabet. They have several charts on the web. AT least this way you can at least spell out the words. Then move on to foods like apple, banana, etc.
Remember, practice makes perfect.

It will be very hard to learn it without doing a proper course. And mind you, one course is not enough... it is divided in levels.... some users need up to level 4 or 5 (the higher the most difficult to interpret)... good luck
