Are you kidding? Americans generally are NOT xenophobes. This country was built on the notion that people can come here and live in peace without prejudice.

Of late however there is a wave of dislike for people who have entered this country illegally. Personally I have no problem with people immigrating to the US legally, but the illegals should be sent back to do it right.

BTW, if you think the US is xenophobic, you have not been to other country's where ANY foreigner is suspect and discriminated against. When you look at it from all sides you realize the US is VERY fair and open to new people.

My opinion

As with any country, people are afraid of foreigners. It is the uncertainty that people are afraid of. If someone does not speak english then right away those who do not understand them think they are talking about them. It is the fear of being put out of your job just so some foreign national can fill the position and work for less. It is the fear of our property values declining, it is the fear of crime going up because of ILLEGAL immagrants running amuck in this country. It is the fear of ILLEGAL immagrants bringing drugs into our country and our kids dying from drug overdose. It is the fear of terrorism, even if they have a green card to work here. It is what society dictates us to believe. It is the anger we feel when someone from another country right away they get assistance from our government such as food stamps, welfare, grants for businesses, when our own citizens are starving and can not get any help. That is the reason that people fear foreigners coming into this country. We have fought for hundreds of years for the freedoms we have, many men and women have died protecting those very freedoms and then to have foreigners come here and want those very freedoms but yet try to blow up our country. It isn't only those who live in Mexico that are ILLEGAL immagrants it is also those who come here from Cuba, the middle east, china, japan, all over this world are mocking the very freedoms we have.

We will continue to fight to keep this land free and those that "buy" their way into our country should not be allowed to live here without doing it the right way. If those that want to live here went about it the right way and were not given every hand out in the world, while there are those starving here, it wouldn't be a bad thing to have them here.

oh, I don't know. Terrorist (as they like to call themselves). Reverse discrimination. Free loans to people from other countries that don't speak english. Trying to work with people that don't know the language. People that drive worse than our own people. (that's bad). more reasons but this is boring.

Hmmm...maybe I could've understood your question if your English was better. But, from what I'm getting is that Americans (yes I said AMERICANS and am excluding Canucks and others who share this continent!) are "xenophobic"--notice that adjective--because we got a GOOD damned thing going here and don't want to share it, have it overpopulated, or have our CULTURE blurred and FKKD UP by people who don't belong here and have a clue as to how we do things! Every country/culture/people feels threatened when what they know to be "their's" is going down the tubes and becoming unrecognizable...like the GOOD 'OL US of A!!!
