My daughter is a natural early riser..she does wake up at about 5:30am..but lately it''s 4:30am. today after trying to put her back down for 30 minutes she finaly went to sleep and slept for another hour and 15 minutes so I know that she i still tired. I moved her bedtime to 6:30-7pm , rather than 6-6:30pm because she moved her nap to 2pm from 11am and simply wasn't tired at 6pm.

The earlier the bedtime the better they will sleep. It doesn't sound logical but it's completely biological. I think the 7pm bedtime is great, but you might want to think about moving her nap up about an hour, at least. Think about it, if she's getting up at, let's say 5:30, and she's not going back down for a nap until 2, she's been awake for 8 and a half hours. That is half an hour longer than the average adult work day. Toddler brains can't handle that. She's getting overtired. She needs and earlier nap and then I would try and stick with the 7 pm bedtime. I would imagine you would see a change in her waking time very soon. Good luck!

Toddlers only sleep about 10 hrs a night. So I think you're asking a little much. Try a bed time of 8:00. I think that would be better and will also accustom her or him to sleeping at night and waking at day light. My son is 11 months old. We put him to sleep at 10:00pm, (so my husband can spend time with him when he gets home from work), and he wakes up around 9:00 AM!

What do you call early? What do you call late? Your toddler may just be a naturally early riser. Ever since I was a very young child I was an early riser. My parents hated it. LOL They set the rule when I was very young that if I woke up and no one was up I needed to stay in my room and either look at books, puzzles, or lay in bed. Today, over 40 and I still get up at 5am everyday but then again I am usually in bed by 11pm too.

Is your toddler a napper? When I gave my son naps, he'd wake up extremely early. After I stopped giving him afternoon naps, he'd sleep about 10 hours. Is your toddler hungry when you put her to bed? Try giving her a snack and some milk before she sleeps, and she might not be waking early to feed. She might also be responsive to melatonin (the hormone that makes us sleepy when it's dark and alert when it's light). Try to darken her room with shades, and she might sleep longer instead of waking with the sun.

Good luck. :)

You are putting her to bed way too early! She is getting too much sleep. She only needs about 10 hours of sleep including any nap she takes. She is no different then your sleep needs. If you went to bed at 7PM, you'd wake up at the crack of dawn too.

Believe it or not, if your child has trouble staying asleep all night, doctors suggest that you put them to bed earlier! They sleep longer and sounder. I don't know all of the details as to why, but it always worked with my babies. They enter REM sleep faster, and stay in it longer.
