It depends on the red you're using. I'd use a light color, like eggshell.

I would go with a natural color. Something in the brown or tan family. I have red couch and loveseat and I painted my living room a tan color. It looks awesome. Just be careful that your color doesn't have any red or beige or pink in it. You would be amazed how pink some browns can look against red furniture. If you don't like those options and want some more color. Go with yellow or a gold color.

I happen to have a bright red sectional sofa, and panicked when it was delivered....that was a LOT of red! I painted my walls a mocha color to warm up the space and also made sure I added some other reds to the room...art work with some red in it...a quilt with some red...candles....but go with a more neutral window treatment...but just to brings it all together. Now i love my bold red sofa, and have had many compliments on the whole room.

Red couches.... In my opinion, there is only ONE color that would or could or should go with red couches and that is a SOFT/WARM beige.. some places call it a "cracked wheat" color. It must be that certain beige color light in color of that wheat-type color but NOT NOT NOT the beige that has a predominent YELLOW or a GOLD color that sort of comes out.

Lots of colours go with red furniture, it depends entirely on how you want the finished result to look, what sort of vibe you're going for etc.

If you wanted something dramatic, I'd go with white. Contrasts make the best drama.
