This sounds a really dumb question but I always thought that there are 14oz to a pound. However, last week I was reading the birth announcement section in my local paper and one baby weighed 9lb16oz!!

There are 16 oz to a pound. 14 pounds to a stone so that was an error. The baby would be 10 pounds.

i pretty sure 16 ounces = a pound, so if it said 9 lbs and 16 oz, then the baby was 10 lbs even, so why say 9 and 16 ozs. I prettty sure its 16 ounces.
