I have dark brown hair and olive skin, and I would like to try some ash based caramel highlights. Do any of you naturally dark people have any suggestions as to a brand name and particular colour?

You shouldnt use ash it has a green tint. Hebral Essence has non-ash caramel highlights.

I would go to a salon and have it done.
It could be that you will use a home colour kit that will not bring your hair up As bright as you would like it to be and could have an Orange hue if it, especially if you have used a colour before to enhance your natural colour.
If you go to the hairdressers they an lift your hair with bleach and then put the colour you wish your hair to be over this.
This eliminates the chances of anything going wrong with your colour and you being happy with it.
You can get a free consultation at your local salon to discuss this with your hairdresser. All consultations should be free and obligation free, however you may need to make an appointment for one.
Best of luck!

AAHHHH! I'm sorry, I was having a bad dream. Oh wait, it wasn't a dream. Please don't use the Herbal Essences Caramel Highlights! My hair is naturally dark, and I thought this would look really good. It looked horrible. I went back over it with Ash haircolor and it turned out okay. Maybe you should use lowlights. I think it would turn out better on dark hair.

they are all equal in pro's and con's. Try going to a beauty supply store, they have all the professional stuff at a reasonable price. But there is nothing hotter than dark hair with olive skin! i would consider keeping it the way it is!

i would recommend that u try some auburn highlights first and step it up from there just for starters, u can see the levels ur hair will lift one color level at a time, then u can stop at whatever shade u think is the best. get a consultation from a professional colorist before u attempt doing this yourself. good luck.
