My throat is sore and my nose / forehead area and ears hurt a little. Other than that, I feel perfect! My question is, if I'm taking care of myself (not going out, gargling with salt water, resting, drinking fluids, etc.) how long should it take for the sore throat to go away (on average)? When is it safe to return to my old routine (exercising, working, going out, etc.)

It was caused by a cold that my boyfriend had. After I was around him, about 2 days later I got the sore throat.

Oh, yeah... I got it on Saturday night, it was bad all yesterday, and now it doesn't even feel sore but there's still puss on the sides of my throat and my nose / forehead area started to hurt today.

I had a bad cause of tonsillitis last month and it took me about a week and a half to get over it. You need to find out if its a virus or a bacterial infection. Mine was a virus and with a virus there isn't much you can do, just lots of rest and drink lots of fluids.

The flu got to you really bad. The next time you feel a sore throat coming on drink more than eight glases of water a day, every 15 minutes. You'll tell me the difference. Don't mind you will urinate alot. Seeing that you have it now drink lots of water with lemon or lime in you water. It would have to go through it normal process seeing that you did not drink lots of water at first to knock the bacteria out of you throat. It may last 4-5 days or longer depending on how you take care of yourself. I would recommend that you exercise it would help to bring your body resistance back up, helping you to fight that flu off. Hope you feel better God's speed.

Sounds like a sinus infection...watch the gargling though, that may actually irritate your throat more. keep with cool liquids, Popsicles, jello. Although warm things might feel better for a moment in your throat they actually bring the blood closer to the surface of your throat and make it hurt worse (an ear nose and throat Dr. told me this a few years ago). If you have been uncomfortable for more than a couple of days you should call your Dr. Hope you feel better soon.
