Not at all. Being liberated from the delusion and guilt of religion is downright exhilarating. Being able to finally match my beliefs to my rationality made me lose a lot of negativity caused by the conflict between what I believed and what the facts told me. I am very upbeat and have never regretted for a minute putting myself out of the reach of religion! When I die, I'm dead, and the world goes on. Not a big deal. I never figured out why I would want to go to heaven anyway, since the most interesting people I knew would be excluded.

What is there to be pessimistic about? I don't feel that I need 'a higher power' to give me strength - I have good friends and a strong mind. Nor do I feel that I have to answer to anyone other than my own conscience. When I die (which happens to everyone, religious or not) I am dead - that's it!!! I don't see that we have a purpose - we are here by an accident of nature and are no more significant to the planet than ants (except we cause more damage!)

Strong atheism consists of a claim that gods don't exist backed up by facts. If you think that's pessimistic, that's your problem.

Not at all, it may just mean they've found another way to be happy. Just because a person doesn't follow a religion...doesn't make them unhappy in their beliefs.

No. Unless logic and pessimism are synonymous, and I don't believe they are.

Wow, you know I never thought about that before. I'd kinda thing so, no? I mean if you have absolutely nothing that you believe in, or no higher power that you're willing to acknowledge, it could lead to the misconception that you're in control of your own destiny. If/when things go wrong, it could leave you pretty soured, don't you think? I don't know. It's early, I haven't had my coffee yet. :)

I think you only seem pessimistic to delusional people.

Yeah, a bit.

I mean, if they believe there is no God, why cant they leave us alone?

If we're wrong, nothing is going to happen to us.
If they're wrong, they go to hell.
