I think it is just the way women happen to walk, and having a pony tail makes it more noticeable. But I personally love to feel the pony tail swishing on my back, so maybe I unconsciously walk that way.

The other day I wore a ponytail and I noticed that I (me, myself) was making it swing from side to side. It can perfectly be avoided... or at least I could make it not swing. At least not as much. I'm not saying I can avoid all sort of movement, but I can control it.

Women have naturally larger hips than men, so when we walk, our hips sway from side to side. Apparently, that range of motion forces loose hair in a ponytail sway from side to side as well.

lol, I noticed my daughter doing this the other day...I think it is just the feel of it swishing from side to side, while it does happen to a certain degree just from walking normally, I do agree that it can be made to look more swishy with a little sway in the walk.
