Even the Apostle Paul had this struggle (see Romans 7) and we will have it all our life. The battle goes on between our self seeking flesh and our mind which knows better or the old man of sin and the new man. The key is in a right understanding and so the more we are using the means God has given us the better we will handle the battle.
See Eph 6 about the battle

The trick is to do what is right even when you don't want to. The more you act like Jesus, the more you will feel like acting like Jesus.

This is the renewing of your mind that the Bible talks about. Even scientists can tell you how this works. Every thought or action that you do makes a new neural connection in your brain, and the more you repeat it, the stronger it becomes. When you start to 'act' the right way, and practice doing the right thing, those pathways will become stronger and the old bad habits will become weaker. Easy!

Once saved, Jesus said we had to be born again. Read through John and focus on nicodemus and read what Jesus said about being born again. Th e Holy SPirit is who assits us to obey the commands of God, otherwise, it is just law. Fast something that is hard fo ryou to give up like TV, eating out, buying needless stuff, and in place of that urge or activity pray to God to be released from any idols that you have that keep you away from God. ANd, if you are sleeping with your boyfriend, stop it. You can't be a christian and keep on fornicating right before God and then want His blessings and presence. You have to be serious about obediance. That's taking up your cross and following Jesus.
Most people deny God because they have authority issues, or they really don't want to submit and change their behaviour. They want their way more than God's way. And, it is intersting to me that people who reject God have done so on the flimsiest of excuses and reasons. THey would research thoroughly the tax system, the bank's interest rates, ect if they had to take out a loan or buy a house, or even look for a new job - they would research with due diligence for the truth yet people just can't be bothered to do that with Jesus.
To be saved is to repent of all known past sins, ask God to reveal any sins to your heart an dmind that He wants you to specifcally confess, repent - speak out loud to God and tell Him you ask Jesus to come into your heart to be saved and to be your Lord and Saviour and that you chose to turn from darkness and sin to light and righteousness(it's not the same as self-righteousness) and realize that you still have fleshy desires. Aks God to give you the HOly SPirit so you can understand Him and obey Him. Ask that God indwell you with the HOly SPirit each day and of your own will, give God your will.

If you have repented and meaningfully felt the weight of your sin asking to be forgiven, and handing your life over to the Lord, then yes, you are born again. It is not a word thing, it is a heartfelt thing. I was wondering if you have been baptised in the Holy Spirit. The fact that you are hungering after God is a sure sign that you belong to Him. Ask Him....to fill you afresh with His Spirit, and keep hungering after Him. Don't worry about other Christian's lives, the Lord is not concerned with comparisons. As long as He has your life in His care completely, then that is all that matters to Him.

Ask and ye shall receive.

You and I and every other christain that has ever lived has had the same problem. I not saying that we should live for the world. We should use the spirit within use to overcome the world. What I am saying is that you shouldn't beat yourself up too much because of sin. Confess it to God and go on. Even Paul had this struggle. Here are His words on the subject... Jim

Romans 7:19-20
For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.
Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.

Maybe it's not right for you and you need to search for an alternative. And be that I do not mean run out join the nearest Kabalah temple and pray to the almighty God Hollywood...

I mean look around you at life, at the people in your life. Maybe you're not like them because you just don't believe, and there's nothing wrong with that. It took me a long time to come to terms with life without Faith in God, but in the end I was a much happier person for finally being able to question and nit pick freely without feeling guilty about 'not worshiping' God.

I can understand though that you envy those who seem to slip into religion so easily. Those who without thought can bow their heads and surrender themselves to 'God.' But the fact that you can't do that shows you have the potential to move away from the flock and become you're own person.

Try having faith in yourself and in humanity. Don't rely on God to fix your problems, just do it yourself and find strength in those around you, not whatever all seeing power may or may not be floating in the sky...

If you really don't like the sound of that then maybe become a nun?

christianity is not about competition. i don't think God will appreciate it if u worship him more because u want to compete wiv ur boyfriend. that is being a hypocrite. rather, u shd ask for the help of the Holy Spirit to make u realise how much God loves u and that should be enough motivation to allow u to do God's will and not urs.

just because you dont embrace god like (lyk!) other christians it does not mean that you will not be saved by him, and also your boyfriend (I know what you mean) even though he chooses to follow God's words in his way as long as you truly believe in God and claim to be a christian, God will save you just as much as your boyfirend, as long as you dont sin!
You have to understand that there are different levels of cristianity and as long as you truly love your boyfriend and are a good person then it is not wrong for you to want more in your life, as there are cristians, such as the pope! that live lives with more than just basic beliefs, and also cristians that get more out of life than what god wishes from them.

My local vicar always drinks more wine than he should! (obv not too much) but therefore this proves you dont have to abide by gods every word

There's no reason to believe in God. Better to think for yourself - which is what I think you're beginning to do. "The greatest happiness for the greatest number" is a good starting point in thinking about ethical matters and deciding what to do. Certainly don't be bullied by others into believing what they want you to. Rational thinking is the best we humans can do, along with a caring attitude to all our fellow human beings.

God will never expect you to do anything that you are not capable of. Pray and ask God to show you your purpose in life, listen and feel the Holy spirit guide you. When we give our lives to Christ we are baby Christians and Just like babies we have to listen and learn, take it slowly and enjoy yourself.
