Even if Fidel were in perfect health, how much longer could he live? He's an old old man.
One of the ways that Fidel and company stayed in power for so long was to allow those with a high frustration level to leave. This left behind those who subscribe to the socialist model that Cuba has pursued. When Fidel is gone, there will be Raoul. When Raoul is gone, there will be any number of dedicated socialists to assume the reins of power. And since the socialist system has managed to meet the bare minimum of the needs of the remaining Cuban people, there is little outcry for change. All of those motivated to change the Cuban system are in prison, or in Miami or Madrid, doing reasonably well for themselves. Their children and grandchildren have little or no memory of Cuba, and have assimilated sufficiently to remain where they are.
On the other hand, a good friend of mine emigrated as a child, and is in his fifties now. His grandfather owned a large estate in central Cuba, and Javier is planning to lay claim to the estate when the opportunity presents itself.
I just don't see any Cuban regime returning the holdings of the emigres unless the Cuban-American Foundation somehow morphs into a stable well received Cuban government. Who knows, maybe Mas Canosa's dream of a free Cuba will come to pass, but it seems unlikely, at least in this generation.

Fidel will pass on when his time comes. I would say that some Cubans may want to go back, after Fidel dies, most have found a home in the US and will stay here. A lot depends who the next leader is, and will it be a Democracy or stay the way it is now?

Hmm... it probably depends on how long they've been here. If they're new immigrants and don't like the culture shock, they may opt to return to their homeland, but if they've been here for a while they may decide to stay.
That old bugger has been around for a while now...

It would be in the best interests of the US to lift the embargo at that time and be a friend to the nation
