You say someone is dealing with depression,I hope that includes medical help as well. It is not wrong for Christians to suffer depression, and seek medical help. Who gave doctors the knowledge to help people? God.
I have suffered depression, and felt guilty for feeling that way.Depression is anger turned inward, it would help to discover, what are they angry with.Talking this out with a therapist or clergy does help. There is light at the end of the tunnel. I will pray Peace of mind for your someone & God's love to surround them & hold them.Bless you for having the discernment & willingness to help that someone. Wait on the Lord.

If ye preserve in my phrase, then are ye my disciples certainly; And ye shall realize the reality, and the reality shall make you unfastened. John eight:31-32 Peace I depart with you, my peace I provide unto you: no longer as the arena giveth, provide I unto you. Let no longer your center be anxious, neither allow or not it's afraid. John 14:27 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy encumbered, and I will provide you leisure. Take my yoke upon you, and be trained of me; for I am meek and lowly in center: and ye shall uncover leisure unto your souls. For my yoke is convenient, and my burden is mild. Matt eleven:28-30

Depression is a serious, often life threatening illness. In case your friend is not in treatment, first ensure that they are getting the care they need. Many people have died of shame when they preferred to commit suicide than to admit to their doctor they were depressed. Remember, the evangelist Luke was a physician.
