Ok so my cat is 8 months old, we got him at 8 weeks and he always used the litter box. Recently I returned to work. 3 times now our cat has pooped on the floor. This morning being the 3rd, he did it right in front of me and my husband as we got ready to leave home for work.
I think he might be showing out?
Any ideas?
Thanks

A change in litter box habits is a sign that your cat may be sick. It could also be your cat telling you that you need to clean the litter box.

Has something changed recently in his life? Sometimes it could be an attention grabber. Something in his life he is not to happy about. Also I have discovered some cats as they get older don't like to use the box if it has a lid. They grow bigger and the cat box to them seems small. They seem to be fine peeing but pooping in the box is a whole other matter. Also try moving the box but let him know where. It doesn't sound like a medical problem though.

If anything has changed in the house, that could cause behavior problems such as this. Like the addition of another pet, or human in the house. If its in the same place every time, place a litter box there and if he uses it, start moving the box a few inches towards the wall (out of your way, so its not in the middle of the floor) every day.
Also, He may have something wrong, so you should call your vet.

This is a reaction to your having recently gone back to work. Your kitten is feeling abandoned and scared when you leave in the morning and is trying to let you know. You could try a crate during the times that you're gone, I would put something that has your scent on it, like an old sock or sweatshirt in with the kitten as a type of security blanket. When you get home, take him out immediately and spend a little extra time playing and cuddling with the little guy. Patience is it's own reward, especially with small animals and little kids, so I hope you have lots. Good luck with your kitten.

Kitty is angry that you are leaving it during the day. Mine will get mad and do things like that, he's an adult that we have had for ever. His latest "show" was the fact that my kids had brought home a kitten they found. Our adult cat was NOT happy and did his best to show me. Actually pooped on the rug outside the shower while I was in the shower. Luckily I looked down before I stepped out.

He has come to tolerate the kitten now and uses it as a toy, playing and wrestling with it, and has decided that sharing his little box isnt such a bad idea.

The cat could be sick. Take it to the vet and rule out illness first.

Place the litterbox in the spot he is marking. This has worked for others. Also, try Cat Attract litter- I think you can buy it at PetCo or PetSmart.. it has something in it (Chlorophyll?) to attract them to the box.

Good luck! Hope he's ok!

if he keeps pooping at the exact same spot,
put a large piece of allluminium foil on that area!
apparently cats can't stand foil!

or u shud try relocating the litter box to somewhere with more privacy?

When he does it, pick him up and place him in the litter tray straight away. This training may take a few days, but he will then associate "pooping" with the litter tray. Worked for me!

It sounds funny, but, I think she is mad at you and the baby. Maybe she is not getting attention she used to from you anymore. Talk to her, play with her, give her better food. Buy her toys to play with. Do not stop the cat from going into the baby's room. (You just have to stay there when she does). Let the cat get used to the baby. My daughter's cat sleep with her every night. One time when she had a friend over and slept with her friend in the guest room, the cat peed in her room (he has never done that before). Treat the cat just like you used to before.

he could be upset with the change, do you clean the litter box at least daily? make sure you show your cat extra attention when you are home and give him some treats when you leave.
