In your opinion, what is the meaning of this symbol?
Here is the description that Giovanni has of Jesus in his vision:
Revelation 1:12I turned around to see the voice that was speaking to me. And when I turned I saw seven golden lampstands, 13and among the lampstands was someone "like a son of man," dressed in a robe reaching down to his feet and with a golden sash around his chest. 14His head and hair were white like wool, as white as snow, and his eyes were like blazing fire. 15His feet were like bronze glowing in a furnace, and his voice was like the sound of rushing waters. 16In his right hand he held seven stars, and out of his mouth came a sharp double-edged sword. His face was like the sun shining in all its brilliance.

The Word of God is referred to as a sword several places in scripture, including Ephesians 6:17 and Hebrews 4:12. The meaning is that the Word of God penetrates completely like a sword when received, even to the deepest parts of the heart, mind, soul, and spirit.
The first chapter of the Gospel of John makes it clear that Jesus is the living Word and thus in Revelations, the symbol of the sword is linked with Him.

The Bible uses different terms for different types of swords. For instance, Hebrews 4:12 speaks of the word being sharper than a two-edged sword. But the word for sword in Hebrews is quite different than the one in Revelation. The sword in Revelation is a long Thracian sword. Purely for destruction. Which makes sense. Jesus is the one who will lead the Battle of Armageddon. The sword is for the destruction of all the wicked and all wickedness.

That is Jesus Christ in angelic form after he comes OFF the mercy seat, Salvatin for the Gentiles is over, that 7th seal has been open, because within that 7th seal, it pertains to every person that Christ die for & was to Redeem, we see Redemption is over, those 7 stars represent the 7 angels of each church age messengers & the 7 candlesticks represents the 7 church ages. The sword that comes out of the angel is the WORD OF GOD, you can also find that in Rev. 19:14-17

because the double edged blade had a connotation of nobility, as opposing the often single edged weapons of warfare. in this case, being the sword of god, or some angelic or divine device anyway, it had of course to be double edged.
by the way... i am not familiar with the text.. but does it actually say somewhere that this guy is jesus?

It would be a lame trick if it was just one of those single edged swords. But it would be even cooler if it was flaming and there was disco music and stuff.
Maybe if he was spinning two plates on sticks at the same time while balancing on a ball. That would be cool.

I personally think it means you can't stray either way. There are different ways one can stray from Christ, and sometimes justify it. I think the double edge sword says stay on the straight and narrow, any other way is dangerous.

double edged sword could mean anything, double edged sword to me means it could help you or hurt you depending on what you do. However, I dont pay attention to the bible anymore but double edged sword outside biblical reference means that it is a catch 22
