Mandarin is the official dialect of both the people's Republic and the Republic of China, i.e. Red China and Taiwan. There are other dialects spoken in both places.

_mandarin (or "guoyu")
_minnanhua (or tayu, recognized as taiwanese language)
_hakka
_various aborigenal languages
_some japanese
another says that the aborigenal people of taiwan is known as "Gaoshan". they use to speak an austronesian language before the chinese colonization of XVII century and that the official one is the "amoy" a variant of chinese, but the tribal groups of the island are 26 each with a proper language.

Taiwanese, which is very similar to but not exactly the same as Hokkienese. But the majority of people speak Chinese Mandarin.

"minnan yue" - a dialect originating from the Fujian Province - it is also spoken in the ethnic Chinese communities in Singapore, Malaysia even in the Phillipines.
