the reason they refuse to believe is that then they would be accountable for there evil deeds, so they would rather deny the truth and live in darkness. John says this is the verdict; light came into the world and the darkness of man rejected the light. the love the darkness!

Hi Rachel,
I do believe in God. I only respectfully reject the psychological authority of religion. I believe you can be spiritual without having to adhere to a particular religious dogma.
Like nationalism, I feel that religions when practiced at the extreme fundamental levels contribute to a lot of sadness and cruelty due to the way they divide people.
I know that good Christians, Muslims, Jews, Buddhists, Hindus, Atheists, etc will find a place in heaven.
I think living by right actions in this life and being mindful and attentive to what you are doing now pave the way for the afterlife that you are talking about.
Living a loving and kind life is a lot more fun than living a cynical mean life.
For me, God is Peace.

What will it hurt just to believe in Zeus, Hera and Aphrodite?
Why would you want to live a lie? Would you buy a car or a house based upon hearsay, or would you insist upon seeing it first? How many people do you know that are living eternally? How can you prove that?
Google search on "Pascal's Wager".
So yes, believing things without evidence is not an intelligent way to live, so it does hurt. It requires you to check your brain at the door of your church.

When will people realize that Pascal's Wager is not going to convince people to believe in a diety which may or may not exist. As for myself, I see no empirical evidence either or against the existence of deities. As such, I will find out after death and take it as an unknown while here on earth. I will live for my fellow human beings and humanity rather than worrying about something that there is no conclusive evidence over.

Which god am I supposed to believe in? There are hundreds of religions and religious organisations ranging from Alcoholics Anonymous to Zoroastrianism, all of them claiming to be the one true belief system. My chances of choosing the correct one are about the same as winning the lottery. For this tiny chance of redemption I have to live my life to a set of moral codes that I don't believe in and cause more disharmony in society.
Religions seperate society into feircely self-righteous clans who believe their way of life is better than anyone elses. This can only cause disharmony. The world will only be peaceful when mankind realises the folly of religion.

Pascal's Wager.
It doesn't work like that.
The fact of the matter is, if I go to church, be a good Christian as it were, I still would not go to heaven, because no matter what I will still not believe. Ultimately that's what it always comes down to. If I were to get into heaven by posing as a Christian well then that just makes a mockery out of God.

Would it not hurt our individuality to all believe the same version of the Divine? Who is to say that one persons choice of faith is correct over another? Faith is an individual choice and to chose not to is still a choice. I believe we are all here to learn different lessons and the only way some of us can learn those lessons is to be different from each other, therefore it is necessary to have non-believers, just as it is necessary to have have all the different faiths.
There is no ONE faith for everyone but there is A faith for each individual.

No, we just dont want to be around people like you...dont forget that most people hate religion and not God himself..because people like YOU go around preaching what the bible says and condemn. So YOU and people like you, play a very good part in making people run away from church and then God. I hope you are happy now, and when God asks you "Why did you make my children go away from me, while you could embrace them" I really want to see what you will answer...apparently bullsh*t, but God is not going to fall for that. Try to help people and support minorities instead of going around saying that homosexual parents are disgusting...I am pretty sure children out there will be more than happy to have 2 mommies or 2 daddies, instead of waiting in an orphanage where their "straight" and "god worth"
alcoholic parents abandoned them...Open your eyes and dont be in the dark. In the absence of light, dark prevails and Lucifer controls.
Bible is a reference not instructions for life...we are not clones of Jesus, we are humans...Unless if you think that you are clean of sins, dont go around attacking and accusing. Besides Jesus attacked religious hypocricy and not homosexuality. And you are close (if not already) to be a hypocrite.

You have to do more than simply believe.
John 3:16 isn't the only verse in the Bible, and many churches lead their sheep into believing that is all they have to do it believe.

Faith without works is dead. Doesn't matter how much you pray, if some people don't get what they want, they say see there is no God. God's will is perfect, it is we as humans who are not and sometimes fight God's will. When he says no it means there's something that much greater in store. He has promised he will answer all our prayers if we follow him. It isn't so much about believing as it is about submiting their will and life to him. It's about rebelion and doing what they want, not what he wants.
