I just posted a question about how to deal with 'severe constipation' and received conflicting suggestions about bananas (some say avoid them, some say eat two a day!). I also had someone tell me to avoid yogurt, but I hear it's great for keeping everything running smoothly in the digestive tract. Anyone know for sure? Thanks!

It is the yogurt! Bannanas may just re-enact the blockage more. Yogurt has these friendly micro organisms that keep your intestines on track.

Seen the Activia yogurt commercials? (green packaging at the store). Most expensive, lIke at $2.25 for a four pack.

Or go out and buy Kefir, I have one; its the Pomegrante one. It has 10 friendly bacterias in it. Helps you keep digesting food.

Laxatives can be more addicting and less effective as time goes by.

Get Miralax, it's an over the counter softener. I use it on my 2 year old. Give her a 1/2 cap full every day in some milk. It will be as easy as pie next time she goes. It is totally safe and works after about 2 days. Stay consistent with it. My little on has been on if for 6 months. She was regular and I took her off of it and she had problems again. The doctor says some kids have to be on it for a while. Her sister was on it for about a year.

Your going to want to get a lot of fiber and water. If that does not work go to your local drug store and get an over the counter stool softner. If that does not work use a laxative, or a supposotory (sp?).
Lst resort get a prescription from your docotor for something called miralax. It will make your bowls move.

If you suffer from constipation then I would suggest a stool softner.

If it is really bad then I would go with the prescrption for miralax.

One of thoes two WILL work!

It sounds like you might have IBS go to your docotor.

The yogurt I'm not sure of but the bananas won't help with constipation, when my children get sick with either the poops or with vomiting I've always been told to feed them the B.R.A.T. diet (bananas, rice, applesauce, toast). So I'd stay away from bananas.

Yogurt yes, bananas no. Get some prunes and drink lots of water.

The yogurt is good, put granola in it too. And snack on granola every so often it will help keep you regular for sure. Apple cider vinegar with mother root extract helps with digestion and helps keep your stool soft too. It has tons of other natural healing qualities.
