No. There is no shame in your guardian's needing help. The important fact is that you have decided to do what you can to prevent from being in the same situation.

And I hate those people who think just because a person was on welfare they are lazy, use drugs, don't want anything better, and they choose to be poor. It is becoming harder and harder to change classes in this country. My mother had Section 8 for a few years, but never food stamps, etc. But even if she did it wouldn't be because she didn't work hard. She often worked two jobs, and did the best she could. And there are alot of working poor in the U.S. that is why we need to raise the minimum wage, and stop crying about helping poor people, when corporate welfare is our real problem. Why are we given huge tax breaks to oil companies, who have had record profits in the past 10 years?

I hope your wrong because I am on welfare. I am not proud of that fact and I can never make ends meet. I never have money for Christmas which woudn't be a big deal but I have a child.

What I am proud of is that I go to college full time, I work part time. I am blessed to have a Dad who can help out and my future will be brighter. I will get off the system, I will work full time and by doing so I will be contributing to society instead of living off of society.

There is nothing wrong with welfare as long as one is doing something to get out of it. The people who are fully capable of going to college and/or working that do not do this and pick welfare as a way to live frankly disgusts me.

By the way for us poor people there is finiancal aide (fafsa) that will pay for college costs.

Work towards getting an education, trust me you will feel much better about your situation.

Ok I will get off my soap box now

No it means that you used welfare as it was intended to be used.As a helping hand to a better life.I for one am very proud that you have made a success of your life.Keep up the great work. And welfare was created for the use /help for legal American citizens.
I know that thru the use of forged and fraudulent ID that some illegal immigrants do get welfare. That welfare is paid for by all legal American tax payers and is for legal Americans only. This practice must be stopped thru more intense scrutiny on the part of the entitlement agency's.

NO. It means you have a greater chance of being poor the rest of your life. Beat the odds and go to college. Get an education and work for aliving like the majority of the US does.

No it doesn't,sometimes people can't make ends meet and its okay to ask for a little help.the part that bugs me is the people that are on welfare (regardless of their legality) and don't do anything to get out of it.They don't go to school, don't find a job or even attempt to get out of using welfare.they consider getting welfare as their job.

Allot of families raise their kids on welfare.
It is time to stop the cycle and get these single parents to work!
If you should have children, make sure you have the money to do so, afterall we all have to be responsible parents now dont we?

Only if you want to classify yourself in this manner. Most people I know that were "on welfare" have overcome that ten-fold and are business owners now.
