"And he (Jesus) went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed..."-(MATTHEW 26:39).

And, behold, one came and said unto him (Jesus), "Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?" And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? There is none good but One, that is God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the Commandments.-(MATTHEW 19:16-17).

Was Jesus(pbuh) praying to himself in the first excerpt if he is one in three?

Why did Jesus(pbuh) in the second excerpt clearly indicate that noone is good, not even him, except God?

This is assuming if you believe in the Trinity

Jesus is part of the Godhead which is also known as the trinity. The Father and The Son and The Holy Spirit. All three are God but all three are separate and have a different function within the God head.
Jesus was praying to His Father . When Jesus questioned the rich young man, He was not suggesting that He is not God but I believe, asking the man a question that would reveal whether he was aware that Jesus is God.
Jesus often spoke in parables and asked questions to which the answer would reveal a person's beliefs and understanding and heart attitude. More often it was for the person to have it revealed to them self because Jesus already knew their heart.

In the first verse, Jesus is praying to the Father.

In the second verse, there is a bit of irony--Jesus is really asking the man if he knows that Jesus is in fact God, which dozens of passages in the Bible make clear. The man might have been acknowledging that Jesus is God, but Jesus is telling the man that he must do more than just believe--he must show by his actions that he is serious about getting rid of the things that were hindering him from following God, as you will notice in the verses that follow that this man was rich, but his love for money was stronger than his desire to serve God.

In the third verse, Jesus is praying to the Father.

In the fourth verse, as I stated above, there is a bit of irony here--Jesus is saying in essence, "You're calling Me good because you believe I am God, but are you going to move beyond acknowledging Me as God and actually do the things that will make you righteous?"--namely, to get rid of his wealth, since he loved his wealth more than he loved God.

I believe the Bible clearly states the Triune nature of God. The first set of links below should be helpful in understanding the Trinity. Please feel free to e-mail me at chad@jesusfreak.com if I can help answer any questions you may have.

One of the things that makes the Bible come alive is that verses are validated by other verses.
Your 2 examples help explain how Jesus can be fully God & fully man at one time.
In the first one, it shows how Jesus is a man praying to God. Jesus had full power to call in the angels and call everything off. This shows how Jesus choose to obey God and chose to die for us. It shows the ultimate sacrifice and that Jesus feels the same anguish and pain that we feel.

In the second one...hmm I was thinking that it was showing that he was God in that he was the only One that was good. I'm thinking that the greek word for good being translated, may have had more than a generic meaning of the word "good". Good question, I'm going to ask my friends.

Good question, granted the Bible does tend to contradict itself sometimes. You have a very good point. Another point I might bring up is his baptism in which everyone heard a voice (paraphrasing)"Behold, my beloved son. In whom I am well pleased." But Jesus was standing right there saying nothing. nothing against those that believe in the Trinity; but the concept was came from a council of men who voted on the belief. No where does it say in the Bible that there is a "trinity". Nor does it say `God and I are the same person.` It does say they are one, but just like one team of people. One group with the same goal. God and Jesus are one in purpose, the term one in spirit means one in the state of mind; not literally one spirit.

I'm sorry, no offense, but "The Trinity" doesn't make much sense to me.

I don't believe in the trinity and it does not make sense to me. Here is why..

1. God created man so how can God be man?

2. When ever you have more then one in charge there is always some kind of disagreement from time to time. What would happen when Gods disagree??? Madness!!! The universe would fall apart.

I could go on and on but these are my major reasons for not believing in the trinty.

what do you have afgainst the trinity?
i personall dont accept that jesus was his own father either
but just because people who love jesus want to believe it what has that do do with us
there are many better quotes you could have quoted to make your point
i know or think to know the one god too
and i love god and jesus
jesus was man he showed the best of what man will become
if children need to believe god was a man so what ,let god fix that one
the main thing is that people know the father god ,that they love god as jesus said
that they love neighbour as jesus said
to have faith and love as jesus said
do do good works as jesus said
you ridicule[pbuh] what would recomed
ridicule you jesus the man or jesus the christ or just all who believe in jesuh and his father in the one united wholy spirit.

He is praying to God. God is the greatest. There is the Trinity, the Father, Son and Holy Ghost.

He's asking the Apostle to define "good." If one is able to properly define the word, one would be able to see that Jesus IS God (which is the ultimate definition of "good.")

It's kinda like having a fight with your boss...and your boss says "Why do you call me boss? How can I be your boss if you won't follow my directions! Don't call me boss until you're ready to listen to me!"
