This depends on the emphasis of your school. I am the director of a private preschool/kindergarten in Japan. We are the highest rated academic school in this country. Children begin to read at the age of one. Science and Computer use at the age of two (We use radiation screens on the monitors and dental vests over the computers to eliminate radiation dangers) It continues on until they enter elementary school. By the age of 6 they speak English (and of course Japanese) fluently, and have basic knowledge of Spanish, French, and German, and sentence signing capabilites in American Sign Language. They know ALL the countries of the world and fact about most of them. They can tell you who their favorite classical musical composers are. You can ask them which planet has 2 moons and they can tell you. Ask them the function of a pancreas and they tell you. All of this is by the age of 6. Some people may look at this and think it is torture, but these children have very high levels of self esteem and confidence. While other kids are bored and just watching TV, these students are studying on their own or working on productive hobbies. Is this what you are looking for, or something more simple?

My cousin has her kids in some special kindergarden. They go out a lot, even when it's raining, but demand they get proper clothing from their parents. They play a lot, not only with man-made toys but with branches, acorns, chestnuts and so on they may find while outside.
Every parent (mom or dad, doesn't matter) has to prepare food once in a month for the whole group.
They have special dad-days when children go camping with their dads. If the child doesn't "have" a dad, the mom's, uncle's, whoever wants to be there are welcome as well.

Make the environment really colorful. Do a lot of songs in your teaching. Open out the school, so that the kids feel that they are free. Have some pets around which are harmless like rabbits and fish and some birds.

Check out http://brighteyeslearning2.tripod.com/ for recipes kids can cook with and with out adult participation.
