Hi Danny- I suffered from bullemia as a teenager ( which wasn't that long ago I suppose). Anyway, it was a difficult experience. It wasn't that I was fat, it was that I honestly could not see my body confrming to other ideals of beauty around me. Lots of people tried to talk to me bout the problem, some got through, and others merely irritated me for having the same effect that a bee buzzing around the room would have. You need to be able to keep it neutral. Don't be high strung, but allow her to see how much it hurts you, but importantly herself. Its not something that can be stopped straight away- its a gradua process. But the core of the problem is basically to do with self esteem. You need to help her to feel better about herself. Compliment her- when the time is right. And if you feel she'd beginning to look ill, then tell her- you will probably be able to help get the message through. Just don't give up on her. You sound like a lovely person- use that to help her. You can also look for support groups for both of you. If its a joint effort maybe she will respond more.

Tell her that the acid in the vomit will eat the enamel off her teeth and she will regret it the rest of her life. Tell her also that it disrupts the potassium levels in her body and makes her muscles week. She needs to stop immediately by pure willpower and she may have backslides now and then, but eventually it will dissipate. But tell her that coming out of it, she will probably gain weight as her body's metabolism readjusts because she has slowed it down by vomiting everything up. She will eventually be able to eat with out being fat. It may take 3 to 4 months of pudginess maybe longer. Don't give up! And by the way, she may have issues of not feeling in control of her life and this may be a way for her to feel in control of something and masking a deeper problem. She needs to get out of what ever she doesn't have control over as this stress may unconsciously be driving her to bulimia. And she is depriving her body of nutrients and as she gets back on track, she may want to take a whole food vitamin that hasn't had the ingredients destroyed by heat: http://www.DontForgetToTakeYourVitamins1040.com/HUFFMAN31948
Oh, and by the way, tell her to eat 50% raw foods, as they melt the pounds away and have naturally occurring enzymes. This will take some stress off of the digestive tract as the digestive tract will not have to produce it's own enzymes. Raw foods are also alkaline therefore the body does not have to dig deep into it's own bones to obtain alkalinity to balance out all the acidic foods this society eats like meats, cheeses, cooked foods, etc. Avoid, 1. White flower, and rice
2. white sugar
3. high fructose corn syrup which activates the appetite
4. saturated fats
5. hydrogenated oils and fats which the body cannot process because they have been chemically altered out of their natural state. Olive oil is best and natural butter, not margarine. Stay away from margarine.

She won't be able to listen and probably won't be able to help herself. Bulimia is a mental disorder. She will need to get counseling from a professional who deals with eating disorders. Bulimia is very serious and can lead to tooth loss, esophageal rupture, heart arrhythmias and even death. She is not absorbing enough nutrients to sustain her, even though she may not actually be losing weight. Most bulimics binge first, then throw up so that the enormous amount of food they have just eaten does not cause them to gain weight. She will need to get help and be active in her own recovery.
