Something that sounds like a different language can also be speaking in tongues...which has nothing to do with the devil.

They don't speak any other languages. They just mumble and gibber in self-deluded hysteria.
I have many tapes made secretly over a number of years which were passed on toe people who claimed to have "the gift of translation". Every one gave different translations for all the recordings, implying that they just said whatever came into htir heads at the time. nothing whatever to do with the burblings on the tapes.
In any case, only xtians could claim to be "taken over" by the devil as they invented the ddevil concept in the first place. Sincee other religions don't believe in it, maybe there's no such thing in the first place.

How many exactly have you met personally? Or is this a Hollywood stereotype you are portraying. I remember seeing a comedian who sounded like he could speak in any language you ask him to and if you didn't speak the language it sounded 'real' enough but it was just gibberish. People just go crazy sometimes. Institutions are filled with them. Give that person a religious upbringing and suddenly its the work of the devil

re: speaking in tongues (glossolalia)
The first scientific study of glossolalia was done by psychiatrist Emil Kraepelin as part of his research into the linguistic behaviour of schizophrenic patients. In 1927, G.B. Cutten published his book Speaking with tongues; historically and psychologically considered, which was regarded a standard in medical literature for many years. Like Kraepelin, he linked glossolalia to schizophrenia and hysteria. In 1972, John Kildahl took a different psychological perspective in his book The Psychology of Speaking in Tongues. He stated that glossolalia was not necessarily a symptom of a mental illness and that glossolalists suffer less from stress. He did observe, however, that glossolalists tend to have more need of authority figures and appeared to have had more crises in their lives.
Nicholas Spanos described glossolalia as an acquired ability, for which no real trance is needed (Glossolalia as Learned Behavior: An Experimental Demonstration, 1987). It is also known as a simplex communication.

Why is it that when we can't understand something it has to be god or the devil?
The devil is a character created by the christian church to put fear into it's followers, and therefore control them.
The cloven hooves were from Pan the trident came from Poseidon.

I've never seen or heard about anyone to suddenly start to speak a foreign language. The people you are referring to are with mental disorders and what they say generally has no sense. This is due to somatic reasons, i.e. changes in their brains. (Like you generally cannot walk graciously, if you are missing a leg.)

Who said they are taken over by the devil? How do you know that they don't realy believe? Who are you to tell them they are possessed by the devil? Are you God? Why are you Judging them on the grounds of their beliefs? Relax man they know what they are doing and if not only god has the right to tell them they are possessed.

Some charismatic christians also speak in other languages. Its the holy spirit working through them.
Some time demons posess people and that can also cause this, but it is very diffirent from christians.

Are you talking about talking in tongues. It is in the Bible and was spoken by all Disciples. It is from God not the Devil. Many Christians don't completely understand it.
